'Fifty Shades Freed' Might Be Made Into 2 Movies (Fingers Crossed!)

jamie dornan dakota johnson on set fifty shadesIt's only been a little over a month since Fifty Shades of Grey hit theaters, so we don't exactly need to get ahead of ourselves here, but -- oh, who are we kidding, why not? The fact is that the first film has sealed the deal for Universal to go full-steam ahead with the follow-up flicks, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. Speculation about Darker has reached a fever pitch obviously, but when it comes to Freed, there's really just one MAJOR question on fans' minds ...

Will the final installment actually be split into TWO films?

I'd put good money on the answer being ... oh, HELL YES.

'Course the only proof we have at this point is one measly interview in the Hollywood Reporter with Dana Brunetti, in which HR asked the film's producer if there's "any chance" the production team will "split the third book — Fifty Shades Freed — into two movies, like Hunger Games and Twilight?"

His response:

I don't know. I mean, look, we don't even have a writer yet, so we have to sit down and think about what the takes and all that would be, so that's way too premature.

Fair, and typical. Like he's gonna spill the beans on this NOW! Ha! Everything with this franchise so far has been about the anticipation. (Or should we say, the foreplay? Ha.)

That said, I'm calling Brunetti's bluff. Nothings "too premature" when it comes to money in Hollywood, and at this point, box office numbers -- not to mention history! -- proves it'll be in their best interest (cough, $$$) to split that final chapter.

At this point, with the trend being to do so (given Twilight, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Batman, etc.), it would actually seem strange if they opted to NOT split Freed into parts 1 and 2. And the story could be most definitely be stretched over the course of two installments.

But don't hold your breath for a confirmation on what we can already educatedly guess will come true. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept us hanging til after Darker comes out, so we may know by, what, 2017 at the earliest? Good thing the waiting game is something Fifty Shades fans play very well.

Could you see Fifty Shades Freed being released in two parts? Would you prefer it that way?
