Anna Kendrick Gets Drunk & Gives the Most Amazing Interview

Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick is by far one of my favorite young actresses to come on the scene in the past decade. She was a breath of fresh air as Jessica in Twilight, she beyond deserved her Oscar nomination for 2010's Up in the Air, and she made a capella smart and cool in Pitch Perfect.

And with her next hit movie on the way this Christmas (she plays Cinderella in the big screen adaptation of Into the Woods), Anna just gave the most amazing interview for the cover of Marie Claire's December issue while drunk! Yes, drunk!

Now, in Anna's defense, she and the writer of the story had just come from a bartending class at a speakeasy in LA. And may I add -- what a genius way to bond with your subject and get her to open up! But a tipsy Anna is a refreshingly honest one, and I really loved some of the things she revealed, especially when it comes to her appearance.

The most common thing that I get is, 'Am I the only one who doesn't think that Anna Kendrick is pretty?' And you're like, 'No, you're not the only one. Arguably, all of the boys in my high school agree with you.'

It's hard to imagine the guys at Anna's high school doing anything but fawning all over her, but it's a feeling and experience that far too many of us can relate to -- and it's inspiring that she didn't let those opinions hold her back or get her down while pursuing her dreams.

Anna also talks about the heartbreaking portrayal of Cinderella she takes on in Into the Woods, turning the princess' love story into a much more relatable one.

The character is thoughtful and complicated. You see what happens after she marries the prince, when you start to face problems in seemingly perfect situations. The interesting thing about her is she overthinks things, she's uncertain -- we don't see that in most versions. In a lot of ways, I think it's this incredibly brave story. She's neglected and abused her entire life she finally gets love and it's not the kind of love she was looking for, and she stands up for herself.

And of course she was even a little self-deprecating talking about her fame and success, especially about what it was like to be nominated for an Oscar. "It was insane. Like really groovy and exciting. [But] there was a lot of 'Why me?'—that sort of thing!"

You know why, Anna? Because you're a great actress and you're open, honest, and not afraid to be yourself. I wish more young actresses would let go a bit, get real, and have fun with their fame like you do! If you aren't following Anna on Twitter, do yourself a favor and get on that right now. Her feed is one of the most hilariously raw ones out there!
