'Baywatch' Movie to Star Dwayne Johnson ... Wait, There's a 'Baywatch' Movie??

Well this latest news is both really quite bizarre and borderline hilarious. It's officially official: Dwayne Johnson will star in the upcoming Baywatch movie. The Rock? In a Baywatch movie? There's a Baywatch movie?? It's sad ... but true.

If you didn't grow up watching the magical series that was Baywatch, you seriously missed out and I feel sorry for you. On the air from 1989-2001, it became one of the most watched shows on television at the time. David Hasselhoff starred and was the executive producer, and the show also launched Pamela Anderson into superstardom. Mostly known for saving "victims" drowning in like two feet of water and slow motion shots of ridiculously fit lifeguards running across the beach, the fact that there's now an actual movie coming out about this should very much please those who long for campy early-'90s TV shows. And who doesn't?

This movie does have hope, especially considering the hilarious way Dwayne announced that he secured a starring role. Here's what the very buff 42-year-old posted to his Instagram:

And the caption? "'This is my beach bitch!' Rumors are true... we're making #BAYWATCH the movie. Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach... #WhoNeedsMouthToMouth #RedShortsBeHugginABrotha"

Most hashtags are supremely annoying, but these? Amazing. Kudos, Rock.

And, please, Pam has to make a cameo, right? Who knows, maybe she'll even have a starring role!

Apparently Justin Malen is going to write what should be some Proust-like dialogue, and Sean Anders and John Morris (We're the Millers) are going to direct.

As long as they make this funny and campy as hell, it could be nothing less than a huge box office hit. But then again, it could also pretty much be the worst movie ever. It'll be so fascinating to see who else will be cast. You know you miss watching insanely in shape actors running around in slow motion in bright red bathing suits and full makeup on the beach. You know you do.

Plus, good luck getting this out of your head for the rest of the day:

Do you think a Baywatch movie is a good idea? Or should Hollywood come up with something original?
