Dakota Johnson Says She Was Bullied in School for Her Parents’ Problems

Dakota JohnsonIt may seem like Dakota Johnson has it made right now, but things haven’t always gone so smoothly for the Fifty Shades of Grey actress. The 24-year-old recently revealed to Elle magazine that she endured “horrific” bullying while she was in high school.

Her famous parents, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, opted to homeschool her until high school, when they sent her to a Catholic boarding school in northern California. Johnson said she was keen to the idea at first, but ended up begging her parents to let her leave.

“I was just miserable there,” she said. “It was a great school, but girls in that concentration are so horrific, just horrific.” Amen.

The teenager ended up at the posh and prestigious New Roads School in Santa Monica, but things didn’t get much better. She says that her classmates would bring in clippings from magazines about her parents' substance abuse issues and torment her about it.

I think people, especially the press, like to pick on children of famous people, and I think that's f**king awful.

Things get made up. It's so, so sad. And there's absolutely nothing you can do about it as a 16 year old. You're like, 'What the f**k? Why? What did I do?'

Ugh, kids are just terrible! Apparently, the situation got so bad that Dakota ended up checking into rehab, but it wasn’t because she started using herself. She just needed some support when it came to dealing with the family stuff.

My parents had some problems of their own that put me in a position of having to deal with very grown-up stuff at a very young age. I needed some help with that, therapy-wise.

Good for her getting help before she turned to drugs, alcohol, or other destructive behaviors to cope with the emotional turmoil in her life. Not many young people have such a solid head on their shoulders.

Were you bullied in high school?
