Angelina Jolie Is Marvelously Menacing in 'Maleficent' Trailer (VIDEO)

MaleficentWho wasn't absolutely petrified of the devil-horned Maleficent and her creepy bird in Sleeping Beauty when they were a kid? She even calls herself the "Mistress of All Evil" and is cruel enough to curse an infant so that she'd prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. How twisted can ya get? She's an iconic Disney villain, so everyone who's grown up watching Sleepy Beauty is probably pretty excited that they're devoting a film to this menacing witch. Starring Angelina Jolie, who can pull off those horns perfectly (quite a difficult feat for us normal folk, I'd imagine), the first trailer for Maleficent was released today.

Hey, this villain's-point-of-view twist on a fairy tale worked well for Wicked, and this is Angelina's first time back onscreen since December 2010, when she starred in The Tourist. She'd make sure her big debut after a years-long hiatus would be a good one, right? From what we see of the trailer, I'd say she made an excellent choice.

Check it out:

The film also features Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, and Sam Riley, but sad to say, everyone really just wants to see more Angelina. She looks freakin' fantastic. Evil really does suit her.

Hopefully the CGI will translate better on the big screen than it does in the trailer, but otherwise, not only do the scenes look gorgeous and hauntingly creepy, it elicits the perfect amount of nostalgia as well. I for one completely forgot about all those black thorns Maleficent conjures up from the ground during the climactic end scene. And there are lots of (trivial) questions surrounding the film too: Will Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather make an appearance (their names aren't listed on Maleficent's IMDb page)? Will Maleficent turn into a dragon? Will each of her appearances be marked by her signature green flames? What about her bird?! It'll be fun to see how much of the original Disney version goes into this new one. Maleficent debuts May 30, 2014. A long way to wait, but one I'm definitely looking forward to.

Wonder if next in the lineup of turning Disney cartoons into live action movies will be the point of view of Scar from Lion King? I'd watch the shit out of that.

Are you looking forward to seeing Maleficent? What do you think of Angelina Jolie's take so far?
