  • The Future for Christian & Ana Cast Hopefuls

  • Ian Somerhalder

While fans and the actor himself seemed to be fired up for him to be cast as Christian Grey, Ian Somerhalder doesn't seem fazed by his loss. He recently reiterated his commitment to Vampire Diaries noting, "I'm on a TV show that shoots 10 months a year." He also has the action film The Anomaly coming down the pipeline at some point, and if rumors are true that he could end up cast as Gideon Cross in the upcoming small screen version of Sylvia Day's Crossfire novels, we'll get to see much, much more of him!

  • Alexis Bledel

The former Gilmore Girls star may not be playing Anastasia Steele, but Alexis Bledel will be making her return to TV alongside cutie Jason Ritter (aka Alexis' TV mom Lauren Graham's BF on Parenthood -- weird!) in the FOX mid-season comedy Us & Them, "about a young couple, whose path to happily-ever-after is complicated by the screwed-up circus of people closest to them." Ha, cute! She's also in a new flick due out next year called Parts per Billion starring Josh Harnett, Penn Badgley, Gena Rowlands, and Rosario Dawson.

  • Matt Bomer

No need to feel bad for the sexy Magic Mike and White Collar star, whose fans were so irate upon hearing about Charlie Hunnam's casting that they petitioned for Matt Bomer to be considered as a replacement. He's currently filming the buzz-worthy HBO The Normal Heart -- a TV movie adaptation of the critically acclaimed play -- with Mark Ruffalo and Julia Roberts, and he's also been cast as Montgomery Clift in an upcoming 2015 biopic about the iconic actor. Awesome!

  • Amanda Seyfried

It always seemed like it was a bit of a long shot for Amanda Seyfried to play Ana -- being that she's well on her way to the A-list and may not have wanted to risk making it there -- but she was always a possibility. No worries, though, because she's got plenty on her plate: She's currently filming While We're Young in NYC with Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts, and Girls standout Adam Driver, will appear in A Million Ways to Die in the West (with Charlize Theron) and Z is for Zachariah next year, AND she seems to be super-happy in her relatively new relationship with Justin Long!

  • Ryan Gosling

Besides appearing in the "hey girl" meme all over the web, everyone's total fantasy Christian Grey Ryan Gosling is set to star in a so far untitled project by Terrence Malick, also starring Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett, due out next year. But in March, he claimed he's taking a break from acting, so it may be a while until he shoots anything else. Sigh.

  • Lucy Hale

Despite appearing in several sexy popular fan-made trailers, Lucy Hale won't be playing Anastasia Steele for real. But she will be back for a fifth season of Pretty Little Liars in 2014!

  • Henry Cavill

Although he would have made a seriously hot Christian Grey, Henry Cavill is all set with various high-profile projects coming down the pipeline like The Great Wall, Guy Richie's The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and of course Batman vs. Superman (yes, the one also starring BEN AFFLECK as Batman! Oh noes!).

  • Elizabeth Olsen

Mary-Kate and Ashley's kid sis Elizabeth Olsen was buzzed about as a likely Ana but will instead star in 2014's Godzilla alongside a potential Christian ... director Sam Taylor-Johnson's husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson!

Fifty Shades director's husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson seemed like he may have had the inside track on scoring Christian Grey, but he didn't make a play for the part after all, opting to support his wife from the sidelines. He'll also star in 2014's Godzilla and 2015's The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

  • Nina Dobrev

Fans campaigning for Nina Dobrev to play Anastasia probably just wanted to see her opposite at-one-time on-screen and off-screen Vampire Diaries BF Ian Somerhalder. Instead, they'll appear together in the new season of the show set to air next month, and Nina's also starring in a movie called Let's Be Cops due next year.

  • Alex Pettyfer

Damn straight he woulda made a hot Christian Grey, but Alex Pettyfer seems to have only gotten so far as to doing a test film with director Gus Van Sant. Ah well! We'll be able to feast our eyes on his hot bod even sooner in the updated version of 1981's sexy romantic drama Endless Love coming to theaters on Valentine's Day 2014.

  • Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley was an early favorite of E.L. James' for Ana and had no problem with the nudity, but she did have conflicting press obligations for the would-be franchise Divergent, which we can catch her in on March 21. She's also starring in the highly-anticipated 2014 flick The Fault in Our Stars.

  • Garrett Hedlund

Kirsten Dunst's sexy BF Garrett Hedlund looks all sorts of perfect for the coveted part of the dominant billionaire, but he passed, because he "couldn't connect with the character." Instead, he'll star in the biopic about Louis Zamperini -- an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II -- called Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie and written by the Coen brothers, as well as the untitled Tron: Legacy sequel. Not too shabby!

  • Felicity Jones

She coulda been a shoo-in, but Like Crazy's Felicity Jones was passed over when producers decided that the 30-year-old was too old to play a 21-year-old college student. There was also buzz that Felicity wasn't into doing full-frontal nudity. But we can look forward to seeing her in next year's True Story (with James Franco), The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Theory of Everything about famous physicist Stephen Hawking's relationship with his wife.

  • Christian Cooke

British actor Christian Cooke, who you may recognize from Magic City, was a top contender for producers, but he somehow didn't make the cut. He won't suffer for lack of work though, it seems, as he has several upcoming projects premiering in 2014 like Love, Rosie and Electricity.

  • Emilia Clarke

While the Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke could've been an inspired choice for Ana, instead she'll continue to star on the hit HBO drama's fourth season, set to air by spring 2014.
