Gwyneth Paltrow’s Latest Tantrum Makes Us Trust Her Even Less

gwyneth paltrow, stell mccartneyWhen people hate on Gwyneth Paltrow, I typically push back. I've always liked her, always! I think she's a talented and funny actress with a great sense of style. I also think that, however misguided her attempts may be, she genuinely is trying to help people live healthier and happier lives. I've said it all before a million times. I thought I'd never stop saying it. These days, though, she's making it harder and harder to be her fan.

First there was the forehead-slapping close-call she had while driving with her child on a scooter. Even as everyone else howled at her carelessness, I tried to be fair. Parents make mistakes, right? But now I hear she's picked a fight with the magazine Vanity Fair and I am reaching the point of speechlessness.

It's easy to chalk up the occasional condescension on her website to general obliviousness. She doesn't mean to be alienating her fans when she suggests spending $900 on a tee-shirt, to her that's normal! But when she goes out of her way not to communicate with Vanity Fair by refusing to participate in an article they are writing about her, she is overtly saying, "No thanks, I do not care about my fans."

To make matters worse, she's allegedly sent around a letter asking her famous friends not to participate in the article. She's putting them in a terribly awkward position. Talk to the magazine and she'll be mad, stay mum and incur the wrath of the reading public. I understand wanting to keep some semblance of a private life when you are in the public eye, but magazine profiles and interviews are part of your job. You can't expect your fans to keep defending you when you give them nothing to work with.

Do you think Gwyneth Paltrow cares about what her fans think?
