'50 Shades of Grey' Characters Influence Hottest Baby Names of 2012 (VIDEO)

I'm named after WHAT
So we all know how Fifty Shades of Grey has taken over, after dominating the book, movie, and Internet worlds, but it seems that its reach is far more long-lasting than we may have suspected: It's now affecting an entire new generation! That's right, the list for the most popular baby names for 2012 is out, and there's some definite Fifty Shades inspiration.

Well ... guess it makes sense, as Linda Murray, global editor-in-chief of BabyCenter, said, "Earlier this year, we heard moms telling us [Fifty Shades of Grey] is an aphrodisiac and helping them get pregnant." I'm sure many couples can thank Fifty Shades for putting some extra spice into their sex lives and then, consequently, getting knocked up.

But naming your sweet, innocent baby after the characters in a badly written book about erotica and BDSM sex? Dunno if you'll want to tell little Ana all about that one when she grows up ...

By the way, sidebar, if you're curious about the top 100 most popular baby names, here is the list for your viewing pleasure.

Though they didn't make the top 100, Murray noted that "Grey is up," as well as "Anastasia" and "Ana." According to Today, the popularity of "Grey" went up nearly 20 percent. Anastasia rose by 10 percent, and Ana shot up 35 spots on the list. However, oddly enough (since everything must go back to Fifty Shades or the world will explode), the name Christian went down a few notches.

Ana & Anastasia seem innocent and common enough, thank goodness, but naming your kid "Grey"? Might be an immediate tipoff that your parents conceived you after reading this scandalous, cringe-worthy, elementary-language-style book about an incredibly good-looking, bondage- and cane- and spanking-loving billionaire sex expert orphan who was abused as a child and can't stand to be touched. Of course, no one can knock anything that is making couples experiment in the bedroom and get closer to each other -- but naming your kids after that inspiration? What's next, naming your baby "Patron" since that was how #2 was conceived?

Also, I'll never make fun of anyone naming their baby after a beloved character in literature (I'd give any parent who names their son "Tyrion" a hug and high-five) (Just kidding?) ... but this "literature"? Really? Well, to each their own, I guess. Though for the next few years, I won't be able to look at the parents of little "Anastasia" without a little side-eye.

Anyway, here's more about the most popular baby names!
