Oprah Thinks '50 Shades of Grey' Needs More Sex

Oprah WinfreyJust when we thought the Fifty Shades of Grey craze couldn't possibly get any crazier, it may just go to an entirely different level, now that Oprah Winfrey has admitted to downloading the Fifty Shades series for a little bit of guilty reading pleasure.

And yes, Oprah reading the series is a very big deal, because duh -- if Oprah's reading it, then everyone needs to be reading it. Because everyone knows that Oprah's favorite things should most definitely be our favorite things too, because -- well, she's OPRAH.

In the November issue of Harper's Bazaar, she said:

Oh I have downloaded all the Fifty Shades of Grey novels and for the first time I can take some guilty pleasure and just read. But I'm thinking, stop with the story, get to the juicy part.

Um, ok -- I'm more than a little bit confused. "Stop with the story and get to the juicy part"? Did she get that backwards? Because anyone who has a remote sense of what constitutes an entertaining and fulfilling novel knows that while Fifty Shades is incredibly juicy, it's pretty much lacking any sort of a real story or plot. (Yes it is. Face it -- it's nothing but a bunch of sexual fluff.)

But aside from her not realizing that these are about the most poorly written books most of us have ever attempted to read -- the fact that she's into the whole erotica thing in general is kind of surprising. Call me crazy, but Oprah has always struck me as being on the more reserved and sophisticated side of the spectrum. And even though she's been dating Stedman for like 900 years, somehow I just can't picture them as being very "adventurous" in the bedroom. I mean, can you picture him tying her up? It's kind of an unlikely scenario, don't you think? (Not that I've ever actually pictured or thought about what they do in the bedroom before she admitted to being a Fifty Shades fan.)

Still, I guess after how many years she's spent working and interviewing other people, it's about time that Oprah took a break and relaxed at home with a good book. It's just too bad that she doesn't seem to know the difference good book versus one that requires zero intelligence to read.

Are you surprised that Oprah is a Fifty Shades of Grey fan?
