'50 Shades of Grey' Is Helping Olympic Athletes ... Um ... Relax

Fifty Shades of GreyCompeting in the 2012 Summer Olympics can be pretty stressful and tiring to say the least, but it turns out the Australian women's swim team has come up with a solution to calm them down in between events -- they're reading Fifty Shades of Grey.

Of the team's love for the erotic best seller, swimmer Alicia Coutts said, "Most of the swimming girls are reading Fifty Shades of Grey. We’re all talking about it." (Yeah -- I'll bet they are.)

I mean, the book really is kind of a no brainer, meaning that it doesn't take much energy to process what is going on (who needs a plot?) between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. In that regard, I can see how it would be an easy and welcome distraction from the pool.

However, considering just how hot and bothered many people admit to getting after reading the scandalous chapters, I can't help but wonder if it's not Fifty Shades itself that helps these gals relax, but the activities that reading the book leads to that really takes the edge off. (Yes, I went there.)

At any rate, given the pressure of competing in the Olympics, I say more power to these girls for finding something to help them "pass the time" and relax when they're not going for the gold. There's really nothing like indulging in a good dose of erotica to fully recharge one's spirit.

Would you describe reading Fifty Shades of Grey as "relaxing"?
