Elizabeth Olsen Mesmerizes Critics in 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' (VIDEO)

elizabeth olsenElizabeth OlsenGrowing up, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were my everything. Call me lame, it's fine. I was a fan -- so what! However, even I didn't know the twins had a younger sister. Enter a third Olsen with the most beautiful clear skin I've ever seen: Elizabeth Olsen. The 22-year-old, wide-eyed Olsen sister is the star of the new movie Martha Marcy May Marlene, which comes out in theaters today. With the twins all wrapped up in the fashion world lately, this is the perfect time for Lizzy to swoop in and make a name for herself on the big screen.

Directed by T. Sean Durkin, the film portrays Olsen as a damaged woman attempting to reconnect with her family after fleeing a horrifying cult. The critics are saying Olsen's acting is phenomenal. Take a look at their reviews of Elizabeth Olsen's performance in Martha Marcy May Marlene after the jump and see for yourself:

Kyle Smith, New York Post:

This is the first great performance [from Elizabeth Olsen] of what promises to be a career of them.

David Edelstein, New York Magazine:

Even if Olsen is getting so much attention because she’s kin to Mary-Kate and Ashley, her performance earns it. She has a wide lollipop face that holds the camera and a pregnant stillness: You can feel the roiling within.

Claudia Puig, USA Today:

The story hinges on a believable lead performance, and Olsen is mesmerizing in her first film role. She starts out wide-eyed and vulnerable and eventually assumes the look of a captive, communicating raw paranoia with subtle gestures.

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone:

It’s Olsen, as a damaged soul clinging to shifting ground, who makes this spellbinder impossible to shake.

Dana Stevens, Slate Magazine:

Olsen is certainly an intense and arresting presence, with a round, freckled face, fathomless blue eyes, and a growly alto voice (not unlike the young Kathleen Turner’s) that makes everything she says sound faintly, defensively sarcastic. She’s impossible to stop watching, and casting directors must be camping outside her door.

Sounds like this performance is the beginning of Liz's amazing career. And if she's really as good as everyone is saying, maybe soon the name Olsen will make us think "Elizabeth" before MK and A. The Martha Marcy May Marlene trailer makes me think it's definitely a possibility. Check it out:
