Fans Rejoice at 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' Midnight Showings (PHOTOS)

Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 2Harry Potter fans are a rare breed. At last night's midnight showings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, they came in waves, and in costume. Only comparable to 5 a.m. Black Friday crowds, hundreds poured into my local movie theater with one thing in common: Sheer HP anticipation. There I stood, hanging with dozens of Harrys, amongst tons of old graduation gowns wizards capes and magic wands, next to Mr. Mad Eye Moody himself, with utter disbelief on my face.

Sure, there were several Ron and Hermione wannabes. However, the most overwhelming crowd accessory, aside from the highly desired ticket, was Gryffindor crimson and gold, worn to commemorate the end of an era. And let me tell you something -- HP fans know how to have a good time. Especially the ones with wigs and tattoos!

I got to the theater around 9 p.m., approximately three hours before the big event. I have to admit I was kind of sad that online ticket sales have forever changed the whole I'm-gonna-camp-out-and-wait-in-line-for-hours mentality. However, I was sweetly surprised when I realized just how many Harry Potter showings there were that evening. Four showings, to be exact -- and one double feature. There I was, thinking this was just a one-ticket kinda evening. I was seriously mistaken.

Like I said, the crowd was big. Really big:

Around 9:30 p.m., the real fans started to get there. Because we all know it is not just about seeing the movie the second it comes out, it's also about getting the best seats to do so. Many of them were dressed like this clan:

Potter T-shirts, Gryffindor scarves = standard. An easy, quick way to honor a momentous occasion without going over the top. And then there were the others. You know, the group costumes. AKA, the best costumes:

Am I lame because I'm obsessed with Fred and George's wigs? Brilliant. Just brilliant.

I didn't even have to ask this crew to pose. When asked for a quick snapshot, they went right into position. Talk about dedication, eh?

I'm gonna be honest with you. I got up close and personal with this Death Eater and I think this tattoo may be real. As in, this Harry Potter Voldemort fan will live with the dark mark forever. And if it's not, then kudos to him -- because that's fantastic artistry.

Then there were the other more subtle HP accessories:

Don't the jackets sort of remind you of the Pink Ladies from Grease? And those pajama pants! Love. I soon realized that the closer it got to the showtime, the less dressed up the movie-goers were. Seems like only muggles get to the movie 30 minutes before it starts. Silly muggles.

Of course, no big premiere is complete without a few tasty treats. Unfortunately, butterbeer was no where to be found, but these tasty cakes, were:
