'Unstoppable' Movie Review: You May Not Want It to End

Unstoppable movieAfter four films together, Denzel Washington and Tony Scott reunited for Unstoppable, opening this weekend. After the disaster that was The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, everyone's skeptical about another train movie from the duo.

Luckily, this film is blowing people away. Check out the reviews for Unstoppable.

Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune:

The runaway train thriller "Unstoppable" is one of his better films. Even if you resist Scott's brand of visual storytelling, [...] this one charges down the track merrily unburdened by exposition.

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone:

Unstoppable [...] is a choo-choo that takes off like a crazy-ass rocket. Your head will spin. Your palms will sweat. Your nerves will fry.

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times:

"Unstoppable" gets its title. The movie is as relentless as the train, slowly gathering momentum before a relentless final hour of continuous suspense.

Sounds great, right? Well, there is one problem ...

There isn't too much substance in Unstoppable beyond the speeding locomotive and the attempts at stopping it. Every review points this out, so I feel compelled to tell all of you.

But I must also say that maybe it doesn't matter much: the film seems to be wowing people based on the action and visual splendor alone. It's not often that critics rally around a movie that doesn't have much of a plot, so if it's getting this much praise, it must really be worth it.

I don't know about you, but I will watch Denzel Washington in pretty much anything. If it's nothing more than him watching paint dry, I'm still there. (Though, admittedly, I'd probably wait to watch it on Netflix instead of paying the $250 it costs to go to the movies nowadays.) I don't care if he's overpaid, he deserves every penny he makes. Add Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson to the mix, and it's even better.

So I'll be there this weekend to see if they can save the poor little children from that big ol' train.

Were you worried Unstoppable would be another dud? Will you watch now that you've read the reviews?
