'Megamind' Review: Movie Won't Blow Your Mind

MegamindI'm a sucker for animated films. Huge fan of the Toy Story franchise, thought Madagascar was adorable, and don't even get me started on Despicable Me. I was really looking forward to seeing Megamind, but according to critics, it falls short of the animated bar.

Joe Neumaier, NY Daily News:

You'd expect part of the fun of this DreamWorks computer-animated family film to be the voices of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, and Tina Fey. But these three megastars are the only fun in "Megamind," which plays out like a clunky, not-so-incredible "Incredibles," or a more-despicable "Despicable Me." It looks great and starts out with the right feel and attitude, but never really takes flight.
Justin Chang, Variety:
It's hard to stay fresh in such over-mined territory, and this latest DreamWorks toon, while not without its moments of wit and emotion, comes off as a derivative wisecracking machine rather than a feat of sustained imagination.
Stephanie Zacharek, Movieline.com:
Megamind tries too hard and ultimately achieves less. It’s undone by its own inferiority complex.
The reviews are pretty similar across the board -- it's a cute movie, but it tries too hard with the jokes. If they would've just taken it down a notch or two, they would have received the laughs they were aiming for. Which is a shame, because with a stellar cast that consists of Tina Fey, Brad Pitt, and Will Ferrell, you'd expect nothing less than perfection.

Are you planning on watching Megamind, regardless of the poor reviews?
