'The Social Network' Reviews Are Stellar

The Social Network movie

Andrew Garfield & Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network

The Social Network, aka "The Facebook Movie," comes out this weekend and everyone's dying to see it. If you recall, I told you to "Netflix it" in the fall movie guide.

I love social media as much as the next person, but I was hesitant to jump on the bandwagon.

And, no, it's not because I'm jealous of Mark Zuckerberg or want to be his girlfriend, as my roommate suggested. (Though I have to say, Jesse Eisenberg, if you're free, call tweet me.) I just didn't think it'd be worth my money to watch a movie about a site I love to hate, with Justin Timberlake trying to act, no matter how much I want to seduce Jesse Eisenberg.

But all kidding and match-making aside, I guess I have to eat my words because reviews for The Social Network are stellar.

Sheila Marikar, ABC News:

I'll admit it: I initially scoffed at the idea of a Facebook movie. How riveting could a film about a Web site whose features include a nagging "People You May Know" window and a game based on buying fake farm animals be? Incredibly, it turns out.

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times:

In an age when movie dialogue is dumbed and slowed down to suit slow-wits in the audience, the dialogue here has the velocity and snap of screwball comedy. [...] "The Social Network" is a great film not because of its dazzling style or visual cleverness, but because it is splendidly well-made.

Andrew O'Hehir, Salon:

Is "The Social Network" one of the fall season's best big movies? Without question.

Hmm. So, okay, apparently I was wrong with my whole "Netflix it" thing, but everybody else thought it'd be bad too, so I'm in good company.

Okay, I can admit when I'm wrong and according to the critics, the script is good, the cinematography is great, and Justin Timberlake's acting is actually enjoyable. Plus, it has Rooney Mara, aka the new Lisbeth Salander.

Crap. Now I may actually watch this thing. But I'm going to the matinee and if it's awful, I'm coming right back here to write a scathing review.

Except for Jesse, I won't utter a bad word about him. What can I say, I'm a sucker for nerdy types with curly hair.

Are you excited about The Social Network? Will you be watching this weekend?
