Lindsay Lohan in 'Machete': Sly Nod to Her Real-Life Bad Behavior?

I'm a fan of both Robert Rodriguez and pulpy flicks featuring lots of bloodshed, so of course I had to see Machete this weekend.

Machete is a 70's style B-movie based on the fake trailer that appears in the Rodriguez/Tarantino 2007 film Grindhouse, and it pretty much lives up to expectations.

You know, as long as you're expecting violence, tits, and comically hard-boiled dialogue.
The casting is out there, with a lineup that includes Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson, and Michelle Rodriguez, who in my opinion deserves some sort of industry award just for her abs in this film. (Seriously: you could grate cheese on those things. HOT.)

Oh, and also Lindsay Lohan's in it.

I know, right?

I have to admit that as soon as I saw her character make an appearance, I wondered if she got the role because she was banging Rodriguez. I mean, I couldn't imagine he hired her for her stellar acting skills of late.

But the more you see of her in the film—and it's not much, she gets maybe 15 minutes of screen time—the more you wonder if she's playing a spoof of her real life persona. There she is on the screen, drugged-up and sleazed-out, her improbably-sized naked hooters barely hidden by mounds of curled platinum-blonde hair, exactly like a caricature of Lindsay Lohan, Trashy Party Queen™.

Director Robert Rodriguez tells PopEater that he was approached by a friend who suggested casting Lohan in the movie he was making, Lindsay supposedly had no problem with her role (a druggie wild child), or her introduction to the movie, where she's pulled out of a drug den by her frustrated father. Rodriguez said,
"If it was just that scene, I'm sure she would not have been interested in it. But for the character that was part of the spoof of it."
So it sounds like the character was in fact an over-the-top wink to her past. I'm not 100% sure it was the best role for her in terms of personal damage control, but maybe I'm wrong. There's something about it that reminds me of Pee-Wee Herman getting up in front of thousands of people after his masturbating-in-a-porn-theater arrest and saying, "HEARD ANY GOOD JOKES LATELY?"

Have you seen Lindsay in Machete? What did you think about her character?
