15 Stages of Finally Making a Freaking Budget (GIFS)

woman working on a budgetLet's talk about the "B" word. Yes, friends, the dreaded "B" word. A word that makes some of us cringe. You guessed it, I'm talking about budgets.

Most of know that we need to have a budget. But sitting down to actually make one -- well, that can be a goal ... or resolution, if you will. And it's easier said than done.

1. You look at your bank account and realize there is a problem.

 

2. You try ignoring the problem for a while ...

 

3. ... then look at your bank account again.

 

4. Decide that it is time to get your financial life in order. Feel a surge of Beyonce-level confidence. Yes! You can do this.

5. Start figuring out how much money you really spend.

 

6. Cry.

 

7. Set some financial goals. Goals are good. Travel! Paying down debt! Retirement! Adventure! All worthy goals.

 

 

8. Do some math. Crunch some numbers. Figure out how you are going to get from point A (where you are now) to point B (able to meet your goals). Time to get your nerd on.

9. If you have a partner, make sure he or she is on board with the plan, especially if you have joint finances.

 

10. Be willing to make some cuts if you need to. Perhaps it is time to say good-bye to the daily coffee shop run and start making your own at home.

 

11. Now that you've figured out how much you can spend, stick to it for a month. And then another month. And then another.

 

12. Enjoy your newfound sense of financial success!
