Calorie BreathAnything to lose a few pounds, right? Well, clearly many around the world embrace that philosophy very literally because a plethora of outrageous weight loss gadgets and gizmos continues to proliferate the market.

Some, like various unregulated pills and potions, can be dangerous; others are just downright weird ... and, dare I say, a waste of money that prey on the hopes of everyone who wants to find a magic weight loss solution that doesn't require the tried-and-true method: exercise and healthy eating.

Here are five of my favorite crazy weight loss products:

Yum! Edible Greeting Cards and 5 Other Things I Wish We Could Eat

Posted by Julie Ryan Evans

Edible Greeting CardsChocolate, cupcake, or margarita, select your flavor and eat your greeting card.

OK, so you can't eat the entire card, it's just a little strip inside the card that you can consume. But still, a really cool idea launched by American Greetings with their line of cards called Tasties.

"Just think, haven't you ever secretly wished you could actually taste that delicious looking piece of cake on the front of your birthday card? Well, now you can literally have your cake and eat it, too," touts a spokesperson from the company.

It's one of those ideas that makes you wonder why no one thought of it before, which got me thinking about all the other things I wish we could eat ...

There's No Escaping FarmVille, Even on Groceries

Posted by Julie Ryan Evans

FarmVille at 7-11I've never played FarmVille, and likely never will because it annoys me to no end -- first filling up my Facebook page, and now garnishing the groceries at my local convenience store.

Yes, the addictive game has taken a step off the screen into your nearest 7-Eleven.

From Slurpees to sandwiches, you can now be lured by the appeal of the FarmVille crew. And not only will you be getting some pretty packaging marketing the game, you'll also get codes for items you need/want to play the game.

Fruit Roll-UpsFed up with fruit snacks, like Fruit Roll-Ups, Fruit by the Foot, and Fruit Gushers, and their "false and misleading" marketing, a woman is suing General Mills.

She says they all contain partially hydrogenated oil, which is contrary to claims the company makes that they are "nutritious" and "healthy to consume."

July 4th Ideas: Add Summer Flavor With Apple Wood Smoking Chips

Posted by Brianne DiSylvester

I love me some smoky flavor ... especially on the grill. I found these Apple Wood Gourmet Smoking Chips ($8.99) that I have to have -- like now.

They are perfect for adding a gourmet taste to plain ol' grilled items, and I spotted them just before July 4th, the biggest grilling day of the season. Score!

And I'm not going to lie, the first thing that popped into my head was: "Can I grill bacon?"

But wanna know the best part ...

Care to Sip on Some Salmon-Flavored Vodka?

Posted by Julie Ryan Evans
on Jun 29, 2010 at 8:52 PM

salmon-flavored vodkaIf people will eat Booger ice cream, then I guess I shouldn't be surprised that someone would make and market smoked-salmon-flavored vodka. But I am.

The fish-flavored liquor comes from none other than the land that gave us Sarah Palin -- Alaska. Perhaps it's so cold up there that their taste buds are frozen and desensitized?

"I think there was some madness and some drunkenness involved, honestly," Toby Foster, partner in Alaska Distillery that's responsible for the creation, told the Associated Press. "I was trying to think of something Alaskan. What's more Alaskan than smoked salmon? It was one of those epiphanies, I suppose."

Epiphany is one word for it; I suppose gross might be another ...

KFC's Doublicious: Son of the Double Down Has Bun ... But Why?

Posted by Kim Conte
on Jun 28, 2010 at 6:15 PM

double downWhen I heard that KFC was following up on the success of its infamous Double Down with a new sandwich, visions of barbecued chicken pieces -- or, even better, boneless wings -- flanking bacon and melted cheese danced in my head.

If you remember, the Double Down (pictured here) is bacon and cheese sandwiched between two pieces of fried chicken; therefore, I expected the Doublicious, a.k.a. "The Son of the Double Down" to be equally unhealthy and, of course, equally bunless.

Was I ever wrong ...

Peanuts May Be Banned on Airlines: Do You Care?

Posted by Julie Ryan Evans
on Jun 23, 2010 at 12:26 PM

peanutsDue to the large number of peanut allergies, the U.S. Department of Transportation has proposed banning peanuts on airplanes.

The public is asked to weigh in with their opinion, and there are apparently a lot strong opinions on the subject.

Do people really love their peanuts that much that this should even be a debate? Most airlines don't even offer a snack anymore, but if they do, wouldn't some crackers or an apple do just as well?

Friendly's Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt: The Latest Food Atrocity

Posted by Julie Ryan Evans
on Jun 22, 2010 at 3:27 PM

Friendly's Grilled Cheese BurgerMeltMove over Double Down, there's a new food atrocity in town: Friendly's Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt.

There wasn't much creativity in naming, as it's pretty much what it sounds like: A hamburger wedged between two grilled cheese sandwiches. And, of course, there's mayo.

Take a minute to digest that one.

One of the most nutritionally unfriendly sandwiches ever, it contains 1,500 calories and 79 grams of fat, almost triple that of KFC's disgusting Double Down.
