When it comes to dating, we women have all sorts of deal-breakers. I have a friend who won't date a guy if he smokes certain cigarette brands. Odd, right? It's not the fact that he smokes that irks her, but rather which ones. Well, to each her own, I say. I have certainly had my fair share of reasons for turning a guy down. I'll never forget one relationship that crashed and burned for something I never saw coming.

One spring day, I happened to meet a guy I'll call Mike. By all superficial appearances, Mike seemed great. He was cute, witty, and most importantly, seemed really into me. I thought, "Jackpot!" Even better, he said he was studying to be a chef. How cool is that? Things started off well enough. Our dates were fun, sweet outings along the lines of picnics or hitting matinees. I thought, "What an old-school romantic." Well, that's what I thought anyway. Turns out, our sun-filled, afternoon dates were hiding a deep, dark secret.

Real Housewives alum Bethenny Frankel sure seems like she has it all together. But don't be fooled. This divorce has been a lot harder on her thank you'd think. When she co-hosted Good Day New York Bethenny revealed how hard her divorce with Jason Hoppy has been for her. "Divorce is the most difficult thing you could ever go through in your entire life," said the entrepreneur. "I never heard how excruciating it is." Wow... excruciating!

Bethenny's divorce certainly has seemed to turn a dark corner the past few months. What started out as a relatively amicable split has gotten downright hostile. Bethenny wouldn't directly address whether she'd call it "bitter." But she did say "It's just a brutal unnatural situation and you sort of end up in a situation you thought you'd never be in."

When you're in a bad relationship and feel like it's time to get out, you usually know it. Deep, deep down, you know it. You lie awake at night, wondering what it will take to make you get out. But then you come up with a bunch of excuses. And they're usually pretty lame ones. I'm not talking about the BIG reasons, like you have a child together or can't afford to live on your own with your kid. I'm talking those lamo excuses that you can keep going for years ... but that when you finally get out, you'll look back and can't even remember what silly reasons you came up with for staying so long.

Here's 10 lame excuses people use to stay in bad relationships.

OMG. Have you seen Julianne Hough's new bob haircut? It's beyond adorable -- and I'm loving the platinum shade of blond she went for as well.

Forget long, layered locks -- chic bobs seem to be all the rage these days, but Julianne probably wasn't going for trendy when she headed to the salon this time around. Nope -- she was lookin' for some awesome breakup hair to go along with her newly single status.

It came as a bit of a surprise when Julianne and Ryan Seacrest split after nearly three years together, so it's understandable that she wanted a fresh look to go along with the new, independent phase of her life.

Breakups suck. OK, that's an understatement. Breakups make you feel like scum. No matter whose "fault" it is, you walk away feeling empty and without that sense of companionship. You walk away feeling totally alone, even when there are hundreds of people walking by you on the street. You wonder what your ex is doing. Who they're with. If that person that you woke up to every Sunday for what feels like forever is thinking about you when they're eating lunch in the park.

Then the reality hits: It's over. At least for now, you're single.

Single. It's a weird realization. This notion of freedom pops into your head wielding this large metal sword trying to battle off those nasty feelings of loneliness. Then you think: Because I'm single, I should, like -- go out, right?

So what's a single lady to do? Make a bucket list. With time, the pain will ease. And when it does, you'll need to get out there. You effin' deserve it. Thus I present you with 20 things every single girl should do:

Recently I had that conversation you never ever want to have with someone you really, really care about. You know, the one where you talk about how you go on with your lives separately now that you're broken up. In the dim light of a small coffee shop over a lukewarm macchiato, I looked into his eyes. My chest hurt. I knew what I had to say, but I didn't want to say it ... at all.

"I'm going to have to defriend you on Facebook. At least for now. I can't know."

It's sad, isn't it? That these are the things you have to discuss with someone when you're going your separate ways? But it was true. I didn't want to click the "unfriend" button because I wanted nothing to do with him. I needed to click it because I still care, and I just can't handle it.

Well, it's no surprise the rumors are already swirling about Bachelor Sean Lowe and Catherine Guidici. Haven't you heard the latest? They're breaking up, fighting, spending time apart, blah blah blah. You know the drill.

This was bound to happen. It always does. But usually, the couple tries to defend their love for as long as humanly possible. Fast forward a couple of Us Weekly covers later, and boom. They're done for good.

Right now we're still in the phase where the couple tries to defend themselves. But Sean? Eh, not so much. You see, he did try to deny the break-up rumors but ... let's just say he's doing a really bad job at it.

When asked about the reports claiming the newly engaged couple is unhappy, Sean confessed ...

I know very few people that have ever had a good breakup. You know, the kind of split where both sides come to a mutual decision to end things and there are no hard feelings. They even still check in with each other and have lunch occassionally. For most, the thought of an ex makes you shake with rage at the fact that you wasted years with them. The days that follow are typically filled with revenge fantasies. And now there is a new way to unleash your rage and it's almost too bizarre to believe.

It’s been two weeks. Two long, psycho behavior-less weeks since I last texted my ex. Hooray for small victories and for easing up off of crazy. It was sparked, exactly two weeks and one day ago, by a revelation. I’d been sitting on my sofa, cellphone in hand, about to fire one off to him for the 1,000th or 100,000th time (only Verizon knows the exact figure) and randomly express my undying love in what probably would’ve been the text message equivalent of a Keith Sweat song. I am impulsive, and paired with unlimited texting and rambling thoughts, I am downright dangerous sometimes. It’s a steep, slick slope into pathetic, and I was about to aim right at it and launch. I didn’t know what I was going to say exactly, but whatever it was was going to put me under love’s stiletto boot heel. For the 1,000th or 100,000th time.
