Online Dating: Would You Try It?

16

Being a single mom is pretty hard work (now that's the understatement of the year!) so the thought of dating is usually put on the backburner, behind the kids, the job, the cooking, the cleaning, and the multitude of other tasks single mommas juggle by themselves.

I know friends of mine who are single moms and the thought of having time for a night out on the town and meeting men is downright comical to them...actually having time to go out?? And on top of that, meeting a single guy that doesn't sprint in the opposite direction upon hearing you have kids? Hah.

It's not fair either because these women are smart, beautiful, and a heck of a catch. Any guy would be lucky to even talk to these ladies. They deserve to have someone special in their lives if that's what they are looking for.

However, they have found a way to have their cake and eat it too by using online dating. And it's really worked for a lot of them because:

  1. You can do it from the comfort of your own home. No babysitter needed, no prep time, just you in your comfy pajamas after the kids have gone to bed.
  2. All the info is right out there. Kids: Yes
  3. More often than not, the people that are using online dating are genuinely looking for a relationship too (of course, there are sleezeballs everywhere, so there's no guarantee).

And yes, a lot of the criticism of online dating has to do with paying those monthly fees. But in the Single Moms Trying the Online Dating Avenue group, members give their opinion on some free online dating sites (must be a member to view the group post). Here's what some of them had to say:

Mom2Jack04: I used www.plentyoffish.com or www.pof.com (same thing) and it isn't like the free memberships you get elsewhere where all you can do is wink and need to pay to actually contact one another. POF is 100% free. You have more freedom with your profile as well as adding pictures and you can email free and even IM each other free. I dated several men from there and also met my now fiance there.

sammy3: I tried the site mate1.com and it is a good site. You can chat with them as well. I have been corresponding with a guy I met on there for the last few weeks. I have tried other sites and I am happiest with it.

Gina77: I am on OKCupid, which I had met one guy last year on, but now he's one of my best friends. Just friends though. But I am supposed to be meeting another guy from OKC on Friday. So who knows. I am very picky about the guys that I am going to meet.

Way to go, ladies!

Would you or have you ever tried online dating? What sites do you use?
