James Franco's 'Kink' Promises the Real Thing for '50 Shades' Fans (VIDEO)

OMG 4

James FrancoJames Franco has been up to some … um, interesting stuff lately. For one thing, that bizarre Justin Bieber "Boyfriend" video spoof. For another, his Inauguration Day poem (When Obama entered / The crowd converged. Finally, I got to shake his hand, / He knew me from Spider-Man). Oh, and there's also this business where he's currently promoting three separate adults-only movies -- including Lovelace, a biopic of the '70s-era porn star, and Interior. Leather Bar, a sex-art film meant to "reclaim the queerness of gay culture."

The third? It's called kink, and according to James Franco, if you liked Fifty Shades of Grey, you're going to LOVE this documentary. Unless, of course, the real thing makes you uncomfortable?

Franco is the producer behind kink, a documentary about Kink.com, the world's largest producer of BDSM pornography. He got the idea to do the film when he toured Kink's San Francisco facilities in 2011:

I was surprised at how comfortable that environment was. The expectation is it would be a sleazy place. It’s because everybody who works there is on board. They’re all willing participants. Nobody’s being exploited. Everyone’s a willing participant. They gave me a tour and let me watch one of the videos being made. I thought, "This is fascinating and important and my preconceptions have been blown away." Just that day, I knew I wanted to make a documentary of that place. Christina Voros, my cinematographer, comes from a documentary film background and is a master at observational documentary, and she shot it in December 2011.

Say what you will about the slightly mystifying aspect of James Franco's career choices, it's an interesting time to bring this kind of project to life. With EL James' books being proudly displayed in airport bookstore shelves, it seems like S&M has slipped its cuffs and started moseying into the mainstream. According to Franco, kink will be appealing to anyone who was turned on by the dynamic between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele:

This is for all the 50 Shades of Grey fans. This is what you're reading about. This is the real thing. This is what it looks like. This isn't the dime store version of bondage. This is what bondage is like.

Here's the preview for kink -- but be forewarned, it's proudly, unapologetically, and ass-spankingly unsafe for work:

What do you think, will you be watching kink when it's available?

Haha. "Fifty Shades" fans will clutch their pearls in horror at the stuff that's on that website.

Kink was a Canadian series from 2001-2005. It goes to show timing is everything...
