Hey, Guys! Here's What Women REALLY Want for Christmas

Hot List 24

5 Christmas gifts for every woman on your listOkay, not to make a sweeping generalization here, but guys suck at presents. Calm down, I'm not talkin' bout all of y'all -- some of you are actually seem to get into the whole process of searching for the perfect gift for your wives or girlfriends.

But let's be honest -- most men are the type who spend the last couple of days before Christmas wandering around the mall in a daze, staring with panicked confusion at anything sparkly/pink/fruity-smelling: Does that look like something she would want? I don't know what it is, but it's shiny and it reeks of perfume in this store and -- hey, gift wrap is free?! Sold!

So, yeah. Want the bad news first?

She probably won't be thrilled when she opens up that random, shiny, last-minute purchase. She'll probably be weird and distant and irritable and sad for at least a week or two, until she convinces herself you'll redeem yourself on Valentine's Day, of course you will, you're not a bad guy, after all.

But here's the good news: This year, you can avoid this common holiday couples' conflict!

Because I'm gonna go ahead and reveal what we women REALLY want for Christmas/Hannukah/Festivus, etc.

1. Something that makes us feel like you think we're incredibly beautiful. Maybe it's jewelry, maybe it's lingerie, maybe it's a scarf -- just SOMETHING that says "I love looking at you."

2. Something that makes us feel like you think we're incredibly smart. Maybe it's a first edition copy of The Catcher in the Rye, maybe it's a month of philosophy lectures, maybe it's a subscription to the NY Times. This gift should say, "I value your intellect and opinion."

3. Something that makes us feel like you think we're incredibly funny. Maybe it's a silly t-shirt or an ironic wall-hanging or a box of witty note cards -- something that says "You make me laugh."

4. Something that makes us feel like you think we're incredibly good at being a mom. Maybe it's a bracelet with a charm for each kid, maybe it's a framed family portrait, maybe it's a studio recording of your kids singing a song just for her. (Okay, maybe that last one is asking for a lot, but you get the idea.)

5. Something that makes us feel like you think we're incredibly deserving of a break. Maybe it's a day at the spa, maybe it's a personal chef for a week, maybe it's a month-long tropical getaway with her girlfriends. (Okay, maybe that last one is asking for a lot, but you get the idea.)

Happy shopping, boys!!

Ladies, what do you REALLY want for Christmas from your man?

The whole "make us think,  he thinks" thing could really backfire if it's not credible.     For example,  if a guy gets a woman who rarely reads or reads romances etc.,   a "smart" book she might think   a) he doesn't know her at all  or  b) he wasn't thinking about her at all,  he just bought something or c) he's suggesting she needs to read more so he'd find her more interesting   d) it's not very intimate,  etc.  etc.

These are great categories but I think you need to be a little more specific if you're going to read a lot into their gifts.

I'd like to be surprised.  Something I didn't pick out and hand him the website to, something he put thought into.   Because I know the contents of every single one of my presents, and not because I looked, but because I was literally pulling things up and then he ordered them.

A spa day would be incredible.. (i think.. Not really sure seeing as i have never been to one...or ever had a pedicure/ manicure/ massage/ or my hair done). But i think a day of beauty and a great dinner and dancing all without the kid would be lovely.

I don't want anything. My boyfriend and I live right outside of NYC so we agreed to spend a nice day in the city together and have lunch and visit museums. I'd rather have experiences than material objects at this point. There's only so much jewelry one girl can wear!

My husband is notorious at picking horrible gifts for me. One Christmas he actually bought me brake pads for my car lol. And this past Valentine's Day I found a receipt in his truck where he had bought 3 candy bars, a stuffed animal(for our daughter) and new coffee mug. Valentine's Day isn't a big holiday for us but I was excited for the mug and candy since I had been majorly craving some chocolate. When I opened my gift there was a mug and only one candy bar. Turns out he bought the other two for himself : \

My husband is never, ever going to get me a surprise thoughtful gift on a holiday. NEVER. That is not to say that he doesn't buy me surprise thoughtful gifts ever, because he does; generally on random days for no particular reason because he saw something that he knew I would like or wanted.  One year I got almost nothing for Christmas but he bought me a baby grand piano in January!  He just hates the pressure of holiday gift shopping.

The only way I'm ever going to get a gift (Christmas, birthday, anniversary, whatever) is if I tell him "This is what I'm getting for ______.  Where's your credit card?"  I'm never surprised but I always get the gift I really want. Last year it was my Kindle.  This year I'm getting a pair of Ugg boots.

lol, this year I will be happy if he doesn't keel over and die of a heart attack when I tell him we're pregnant, again, for the 3rd time in 4 years.
