This Kristen Stewart cheating fiasco just continues to get weirder and weirder. Not only did it strike me as totally bizarro that an actress and a director would issue public apologies for their infidelities, further fueling the media's fire, but now, another one of Kristen's former colleagues, Italian producer Giovanni Agnelli, is defending her in a series of irate tweets. And get this: According to Agnelli, "Kristen did not have any type of sex with Rupert Sanders." Uh, whaaaat?!
Even though the affair initially seemed like it may have only been a series of heated make-out sessions, I know I'm not alone in having my doubts about that. Now, Agnelli's contribution to the conversation only serves to open an entire Pandora's box of related, followup questions! Like how the heck would he know one way or the other? Is he suddenly the Linda Tripp to Kristen's Monica Lewinsky?
The producer went on to write:
The spin that keeps growing on this story is staggering. There was NO on set affair. Stop printing LIES.
Yeesh! This guy can defend Kristen 'til the cows come home, but unfortunately, no one is going to believe some random producer friend of Kristen's, particularly after her grandiose public apology. A move, which, without it, the media wouldn't really have had the green light to run nearly as much about this scandal. Also, if they didn't actually have "any type of sex" ... why then would both Kristen and Rupert apologized so profusely? Sure, it could have been an emotional affair, a silly flirtation, a lot of talk and no action. But isn't that, in some ways, a lot worse?
Given how oddly the whole thing has played out -- with the photographs and the awkward apologies, and now these strange claims from Agnelli -- I'm really starting to think all the key players might be pulling a wild publicity stunt. In fact, it may be what publicists believe will be an amazing way to set the stage for an epic reunion between Kristen and Rob at the premiere of Breaking Dawn: Part 2 ... Sadly enough, I wouldn't put it past anyone or any couple in Hollywood to stage something as phoney-baloney and manipulative as that.
Do you believe Giovanni Agnelli's claims? Do you suspect the scandal may have been completely staged?
