While rumor has it that Robert Pattinson won't even speak to Kristen Stewart, and the two have only been communicating through "heated texts," Snow White & the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders and his wife Liberty Ross may be much closer to a reconciliation after news broke of the torrid affair. A source close to Liberty tells Perez Hilton that Liberty "is prepared to give Rupert a second chance. She accepts that it was just one of those silly flirtations."

Hrrmm ... The only problem is: It may have initially been painted as a "silly flirtation," but Liberty's brother, Leopold, recently revealed what I've been suspecting all along -- that Kristen and Rupert's infatuation was no fling. Specifically, it's been going on "from the last half of filming and all through post-production, clear into last week," he said. Makes sense, being that they were spending the most time together through SWATH's filming.

Still, good for Liberty if she does want to try to make it work.

For one thing, there's even buzz that Rupert and Kristen didn't actually have sex -- which does change the dynamic somewhat. Sure, everyone has their own definition of what constitutes cheating and what is unforgivable. Maybe what went on between her husband and his young leading lady didn't err into that territory for Liberty. Plus, they have two children together, which is definitely one reason to try to get through this.

I realize we live in a culture where any form of cheating is usually the last straw, but we've also become a society that gives up way too easily in marriage. I know some women abhor Hillary Clinton for forgiving Bill Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, but I was always on her side. Same as Jackie Kennedy with JFK, Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin. I figure these women had their reasons for standing by their cheatin' dog, and who are we to question that? The two people in the relationship are the only people who know the truth and can make a decision about whether or not they want to try to work through a very public betrayal. More power to Liberty and Rupert if they're able to overcome this dark hour of their marriage.

Wonder if KStew's letter to Liberty is helping the reconciliation along ...
