Katie Holmes Could Get Millions From Tom Cruise, But Is That Fair? (VIDEO)

by Ericka Sóuter on July 3, 2012 at 10:15 AM

tomkatThe biggest TomKat question of the day: Did she or didn't she ... sign a prenup, that is.

That is what everyone's asking three days after the world's collective "I knew it wouldn't last" at the news that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were headed to divorce court. Well, I would bet the farm that any woman willing to wed Mr. Mission Impossible MUST do two things: join the Scientology cult religion and sign on the dotted line. The guy's worth like $270 million. With that much money at stake, he'd have to be crazier than we already thought not to protect his bank account.

According to Extra!, Katie's got a crazy-sweet deal. She may walk away with $3 million for each year they were married. That's $15 million! Or about $8,220 a day! And get this, if she had made it to 11 years, she would have nabbed half his fortune.

Now some would say she deserves every penny for having put up with all those weird Scientology rules (i.e., the Silent Birth!!!!), but come on. Katie wasn't exactly a pauper before she said 'I do' and, to be honest, her career and celeb status got a big boost from this arrangement.

So why should she get that much cash? It's not like she gave up her career to stay at home and raise his kids. It's not as though she helped build his business.

She's not the only star ready to take their broken heart to the bank. The Khloe Kardashian-Lamar Odom contract is ridiculous. If they split, she reportedly gets a half million for every year that they were married, $25,000 a month in support, the house, a new car at the end of every lease, $5,000 a month for shopping, $1,000 a month for beauty care, and season court side Lakers tickets for her entire family. Seriously? Why in the world should she get all that?!

Another jaw-dropper: Keith Urban will bank $700,000 for every year he was married to Nicole Kidman if things don't work out. Just one caveat -- if he starts using drugs again, he gets nothing. He's already rich. Why does he need her money anyway?

It’s nothing like the situation of regular divorcing couples where one person often has become reliant financially on the other. The end of those marriages means both emotional and economic devastation for the lower earner. Clearly that's not the case among stars. So why can't these celebs just walk away without a big payday?

Take a look at these other over-the-top celeb pre-nups:

Do you think stars like Katie Holmes deserve big prenup payouts?

What do you care what other people get in a divorce? Its nobodys damn business, even if they're celebrities. Jesus, what do you want to know next, how often Tom took a shit, and how bad it smelled?

What are you talking about, she didn't give up her career to raise his kids? I hasn't seen her in anything worthwhile since Dawson's Creek or Go. She's with Suri everyday, while Tom is out making blockbusters. Not to mention that her image completely tanked when she married him, effecting her roles. And supposedly Tom had a tight leash and what roles she chose. So she did give up her career in a way and she totally deserves whatever her prenup allows her.

She lost her part in the Batman movies because of Tom's controlling behavior and that's a lot of publicity and money.  And yes I agree with others that you see her with Suri a lot more than Tom.

I don't know if all stars deserve a big pay out, but I would want about just that much money to put up with all that whackadoodle for 5 years.

Is Khloe Kardashian not worth more than Lamar Odom? And how the hell can he get Lakers tickets for the whole family if he's not a Laker?

Why can't these asshats just have a normal pre-nip: you keep what you came with, we split 50/50 what we amassed as a couple.
