So Justin Bieber was at some "I'm Justin Bieber!" type event when a fan cornered him and demanded to know if he's going to ask Selena Gomez to marry him. Because that's the kind of information complete strangers should be asking an 18-year-old about his first-ever girlfriend. That's SO our business! And it's not at all creepy, either.
Justin may still be a CHILD but he handled the question well: Supposedly he replied, "We'll see." And no matter what your age that is absolutely the right answer to "are you going to marry him/her." (Next to, of course, "that's none of your f*cking business.") If you know that 20 million people are listening and anything that comes out of your mouth will be endlessly analyzed on the Internet (er, um...) you'd better have an answer that covers all your bases. And that's exactly what the Biebs had -- here's why.
1. He didn't deny. "Hell no, we're just kids!" Now all the people who got married at 18 are feeling defensive. And -- word gets back to Selena and she feels like he's not serious about her.
2. He didn't confirm. Dude, he's not going to tell YOU before he proposes to Selena! What the hell, are you his insta-confidante? IF he asks Selena to marry him she'll be the first to know. And then he'll send out a press release. That's how it's done.
3. He was vague. That Bieber, he's a man of mystery. Who can say what will happen in the future? Maybe Selena has an unrequited crush on Clint Eastwood. Maybe Justin's GAY. (I'm getting struck by lightning right now for suggesting such a thing -- just so you know.) Or maybe those two are bound by contract to continue dating, marry when they turn 25, and divorce when they turn 28. We don't know! We will see.
At any rate, I think we can learn something from Jusin's example. This is the perfect answer even if you're not a celebrity. Are you going to marry that boyfriend of yours? Don't deny. Don't confirm. Just say, "we'll see."
How do you usually answer questions like that about your love life?
