Well, shut my mouth, y'all! Miley Cyrus is -- (wait for it) engaged to her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth. Yes, you heard me right. Liam finally put a ring on it after three years together, proving once and for all that Miley actually can be tamed. And he definitely didn't go cheap when it came to her new rock. The Neil Lane engagement ring he gave her weighs in at a whopping 3.5 carats. (Not too shabby.)
Liam popped the question on May 31, and after keeping their marriage plans secret for a few days, Miley finally made the big announcement via Twitter by posting the following message: "I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam."
And while I really want to sit here and roll my eyes and make some sort of snarky comment about what a joke their engagement is -- I just can't bring myself to do it. Because (dare I say it?) I think these two are actually the real deal -- and have what it takes to make a marriage work even though they're both very young.
First of all, Miley and Liam have already been together for three years, which is actually longer than most marriages in Hollywood last. And even though Miley is only 19 and Liam is just 22, they seem to have grown up a lot faster than most people their age. While other "kids" in their late teens and early 20s are trying to figure out what to do with the rest of their lives, Miley & Liam both have successful careers and are sure of who they are and where they're headed.

And in addition to being secure in their own lives, Miley & Liam have been able to resist the pressures and temptations in Hollywood to be unfaithful to each other with other young, gorgeous celebrities. If they've been able to stay committed to each other during a time in their lives when dating around and trying other people on for size is incredibly appealing, odds are good that they plan on being together for the long haul.
Congrats to both of them -- they really do seem happy and in love!

While I think it's sweet that he proposed, 19 and 22 is far too young to be getting engaged, especially for a Hollywood couple!
I wish them only the best. I've been married for 34 years and got married when I was 21. Age doesn't always mean gloom and doom.

I was engaged at 21, married at 22 and still happily marred 7 years later. My parents were both 21 when they got married, they only KNEW each other for TWO WEEKS prior to being married, they were married 37 years when my dad passed away... had he not died from cancer they undoubtedly would still be together. When you know, you know!
I got married at 19, my husband was 18. We knew each other 1 month before he proposed and got married 2 months after that. We're going on 19 years.
Age does not matter.
