'7 Days of Sex' Challenge Day Three: Wake-Up Sex Is Better Than Make-Up Sex

When you have been married nine years and together for more than 11, sometimes it's easy to take sex for granted. My husband and I knew that Lifetime's 7 Days of Sex challenge was not going to be easy. We knew it would require more focus and determination than we had been giving to sex in recent months. But we also didn't realize how good that can be.

Day three (or night three, I supposed) came on the heels of yet another long day of double workouts and kid shuttling and then a long drive up to our family lake house for Mother's Day weekend.

We have hit the point in the year where we do a 3-hour drive out of the city every Friday night and I can say the last thing in the world on either of our minds when we do this is sex. But last night we were obligated. And worst of all? I was obligated to initiate.

Ah, pressure. It's so fun. By the time we arrived at the lake, it was 9:30 p.m. and we were both tired. I curled up on the couch right after the kids went down and was asleep within seconds.

Unfortunately, when I woke with a start at 1 a.m., realizing we had skipped sex, I was not exactly rearing to go. But I was wearing my pink "flirtatious Friday" underwear provided by Lifetime and I am no quitter! So I jumped on my husband and made it happen.

It was kind of sexy to be the only ones awake in a big dark house in the woods. We are used to the city where one can barely see the stars, but here we can see it all on a clear night with only the loons and frogs creating the soundtrack.

It is pretty sexy. I can't say I was up for acrobatics, but it was fun nonetheless. I also can't say anything would have happened if we were not obligated to do it. But hey, it was a lesson anyway.

Sometimes you can have fun get close in spite of yourself. And that is the whole point of this, right?

Today calls for getting out of the house and doing a date day or night. We have a few ideas in mind. We will definitely take the boat out for some alone time, maybe even after dark. We may also go to the drive in or spend some time cuddled under the stars in the gazebo by the lake.

Either way, we are out of the city and together. What can go wrong?

I love middle of the night sex. This "challenge" irks me though. Sex is important in any relationship, that much is fact.

But it will never stop seeming demeaning in my eyes, to have anyone feel that sex is a duty. Whether its to keep your man from cheating, for some "challenge", or any other reason, I will always feel that sex should never become a job or chore.

I love a challenge as much as the next person. But i really dont think this challenge will truly save any marriages. Help? Of course. But to save something beyond repair? Takes more than a week of sex.

Oh yes. When I was pregnant that's the only time I had energy was after i'd slept a few hours. Hubby didn't always want to wake up though. :-(
