For the broken-hearted, Valentine's Day is a horror show. It's a day when you just want to call in sick, pull the covers over your head, and rock back and forth humming to yourself until it all goes away. And it will -- in 24 hours! But still, who is looking out for these poor souls? Where is their refuge on this most painful day of the year?
Well good news, members of the broken-hearted club. You could spend the day at the Museum of Broken Relationships. It's a museum loaded with mementos of love gone wrong, wrong, wrong. Here's a museum where you could go and feel your feelings, with no one there to tell you to get over it already, he's not worth it!
At the Museum of Broken Relationships, you'll find a garter belt with the note: "I never put them on. The relationship might have lasted longer if I had." And there's an ax some woman used to chop up off her ex-girlfriend's furniture. And there's the chipped garden gnome an angry wife threw at her jerk husband's car as he was driving away. Yeah, good times.
Only problem: It's in Zagreb, Croatia. Which is, let's see, about 4,300 miles away from New York City. Okay, so that's not going to work for most of you.
But hey, maybe we should build a museum like that here! It would hold mix tapes from the 1980s, that cheap necklace you never liked anyway, the salad tongs you bought together at Crate & Barrel when you thought all you had to look forward to were years and years of love and laugher together (SOB!). And in one room they would keep the movie Say Anything on continuous loop all day long. And then there would be a padded cry room with unlimited supplies of tissues and counsellors on hand who haven't already heard your break-up story 10,000 times and want to know all the details, really.
But then, come to think of it, that's why Americans have garages, right?
What would you keep in your Museum of Broken Relationships?
