sofia vergaraBig news from AskMen.com today! The site polled users and staffers to come up with the "Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2012," which was released today. If you're thinking it's just another round-up of the usual suspects -- you know, Victoria's Secret model followed by Angelina Jolie followed by Christina Hendricks and maybe Natalie Portman -- the results might surprise you. As it turns out, the criteria for this list is actually different, because Editor-in-Chief James Bassil wanted the guys who weighed in to assess the candidates as prospective girlfriends and rank them according to that. So, it wasn't just about who's hot or not.

Bassil explained that while "looks are obviously a big one for guys ... other factors are where a woman is in life, the kind of career she's in, and the success or ambition that reflects. Sincerity and loyalty, all of those values that guys appreciate." Interrreesssting ...

In other words, men aren't just concerned with the most superficial of traits (aka T&A)?? I kid, I kid ... I realize that not all single adult men are like horny frat boys perpetually looking to date a Playboy centerfold. But conventional wisdom about men -- and my past dating experience -- might lead you to believe that they're not really looking at the whole picture as much as women are. According to this list, however, they're completely capable of that! Sweet!

For instance, AskMen.com respondents apparently liked Sofia Vergara (from ModernFamily) best because she "does lots of interviews where she's funny and charming and seems easygoing -- all of those personal characteristics that guys prize in women. It seems like there is a sincerity there too, and that's a huge thing for guys in relationships," says Bassil. Huh, I kinda love it!

Really goes to prove that desirability is much deeper than looks alone. It takes a wealth of other traits -- from intelligent to wit to charm and sincerity -- to attain that label from either gender. It's surely something men and women could stand to remember when they're looking for "the one."

Do you agree looks alone aren't enough to make someone "desirable"?
