New Vibrator Lets You Program Your Own Pleasure

messy bedWhen it comes to my vibrator, I’m a simple girl with simple needs. I want a nice, clean, low buzz with medium to serious power and sometimes a little extra kick. So when the kind folks at Babeland sent me the Minna Ola ($165), a vibrator I had already met at a sex toy trade show this summer, I was both curious, and a little less than anxious, to give it a go. That's because the innovation behind the toy is that you design the pattern of vibrations for your pleasure. And the idea of having to think for my vibrator exhausted my brain.

Still, I'm not going to lie. Its interactive feature got my sex toy geekery brain stimulated. That it feels wonderful -- light to hold and silky soft -- made me ooh and aah. And being able to squeeze it, at different strengths and lengths, was a new challenge for me.

But once I started playing with it, it began to feel like the big brother of vibes. And I couldn't stop thinking, how much do we want our sex toys to know about us?

minna ola vibratorWe want our partners to be able to read us, but half the time, we don't know what we want. If we could learn what we want through a vibrator, wouldn't that help make us better communicators overall? Because the thing about this vibrator is that when you squeeze the head, you alter the vibration. And when you squeeze and release and repeat as necessary, you create your own pattern. A pattern that you can then lock and load. As far as buttons and batteries go, it's easy and rechargeable, although it took me a few tries to figure out how to actually get the pattern I made to play back (I hate reading instructions).

What I'm really discovering about my own needs is that I'm kind of a one-trick pony. As long as the vibration keeps going, and stays strong, I'm golden. I don't usually want to think too much when I'm getting off. It ruins the moment, and in play-back mode, the vibrator has this pause at the end of each cycle that really stops the flow of what's going on. When I tried to manually hold down the vibration (which when squeezed fully is actually quite nice), my wrists started to hurt. I didn't want to squeeze anymore, but I wanted that powerful, non-stop sensation without the anticipation of that dreaded pause.

That being said, it's nice to know there's a sex toy that wants me to show it what I like. And it could be fun for a couple, because you can program it together (or he can program it and use it on you). Still, it's not an intuitive vibrator, the kind you don't have to tell what to do. The kind that after it's done, it would know my other needs, like cleaning the house or making some food. While that would be nice, it could also be kind of creepy.

What I've learned is that while you can teach your vibrator new tricks, in the end, you are in control of your pleasure. And in my case, it doesn't take bells and whistles to have a good time. All it takes is one long buzz.

Would you try the Minna Ola?
