If Hugh Hefner Can Get Dumped Regular Guys Have No Hope

Poor Hugh. Poor poor Hugh Hefner. The pajama-wearing head honcho of Playboy was ditched by his fiancee Crystal Harris mere days before they were supposed to walk down the aisle. He has a mansion. He is famous. He has butt-loads of money. But even that can't save him from being dumped

I adore Hugh Hefner. I watched many a season of The Girls Next Door. Personally, I always thought he'd end up with Holly Madison. They seemed great together, Holly and her "Puffin," as she would call him. But when that ended and he took up with Crystal and popped the question so soon ... just didn't seem right. I'm not shocked by the break-up, but I am curious. Is the real issue here that actually -- even though Hugh Hefner is rich, famous, and seemingly a great (though old) guy -- the ladies these days hold more power in a relationship?

And what does this mean for the rest of us? What can we learn from Hef's heartbreak?

Really, when it comes down to it, the women do call the shots in the relationship. Once a dude proposes, he gives up his power position. Once those words come tumbling out of his mouth, it's all about what she says and does or doesn't do, as the case may be. And as we have seen, ladies these days aren't afraid of being on their own, being single doesn't have as much taboo anymore.

Now, in Hef's case, we also have to look at the old age difference. He's 85. Crystal is 25. That's 60 years, folks. Granted, he's a spry 85, in good shape, obviously still rarin' to go, but perhaps that is what we all need to take away from this. We need to date people our own age, or at least within a decade or two. Maybe Hef needs to date someone say in her 60s -- Susan Sarandon is single, sexy, and 64. Or maybe Angie Dickinson -- she'll be 80 in September.

So, the world's most famous Playboy is back on the market. Single. Still searching for love like the rest of us. Maybe he should try Match.com?

What do you think of Hugh Hefner's being left at the altar?
