That Kate Hudson. She's an unconventional one. First she marries and makes an adorable baby with a much older musician. Then she dates a baseball player. Then she makes another baby with another musician. Now she's just announced that she's engaged to her baby daddy! All by the age of 32!
Well, let's backtrack a scosh. She didn't really announce that she's engaged to Muse frontman, Matthew Bellamy, so much as Matt Lauer noticed the giant square-cut rock she was sporting on the Today Show. After Lauer noticed, Kate responded with:
I haven't really announced it, I was waiting for someone to notice.
I gotta say, I think it's pretty cool that Kate didn't make a giant to-do over her engagement -- especially since it's her second wedding. Way to keep it classy, Kate. I like your style.
Maybe she didn't want to announce it because the only wedding people have on their minds these days begins with a "roy" and ends with an "al." Or maybe she's just a chill kind of lady, who feels that a second wedding shouldn't be as big as a first one. If it's the latter, I'm totally with her.
Weddings are a big deal. And they're a big "first." (And hopefully last!) Although I'm not partial to the giant announcements, followed by engagement parties, showers, and everything in between, I kind of get it. You're committing your life to someone, and you want to celebrate it.
When it comes to second weddings, well, not to devalue them, but isn't it a little bit "been there, done that"? You already committed your "life" to someone, had the party, bought the dress, blah, blah, blah. Also, it's doubly less of a big deal if you're already pregnant going into your second marriage. Sorry, baby trumps wedding.
So, good for you, Kate, for not doing the typical "let's stop the world I'm engaged" celebrity thing. You're a cool and casual gal, and I totally think we could be friends.
What do you think of Kate Hudson not announcing her engagement?
