Wow, these two don't waste any time! Rumor has it Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn are living together after only dating/hooking up/vacationing in Mexico, etc. for three months. Remember how she and Ryan Reynolds only recently divorced? Yeah, because of that, Scar's been living at a West Hollywood hotel, but has "essentially moved in over the last few weeks" (a source tells US Weekly) to Penn's $3.8 mil. Malibu house.
You know how it works. First, you bring an extra toothbrush ... then you stake your claim in a section of the bathroom cabinet ... before you know it, you're grocery shopping together on weekends, stocking the kitchen with fresh produce, almond butter, and popcorn, because you can't stand that his pantry and fridge are empty otherwise, etc.
Come to think of it, three years ago, I was kinda in ScarJo's shoes.
I had seriously outgrown my digs (a likely illegal, heat-less, banging pipe-filled basement apartment), which had initially been temporary. My boyfriend and I were spending more and more time together at his house (yeah, a whole house!) in the 'burbs during weekends and the occasional weeknight or two. I began having serious back problems, started seeing doctors near him, and soon, it was like, "Alright, let's just go get the last of your stuff from that roach-infested dungeon and make it official."
Okay, a hotel in West Hollywood vs. NYC basement apartment are not the same thing! But I get where Scarlett's coming from. You're at the guy's place so much already, and you're kinda displaced anyway, so it makes sense to just move on in. But what worries me is that they've only been together three months! My boyfriend and I had been together about a year and four months when we moved in together. Even then, we didn't even completely know about one another's quirks. And three months in -- yeesh! Although the sparks were flying crazy-style, looking back, I feel like we were still practically strangers in many ways.
But hey, moving in together is the ULTIMATE litmus test for a relationship. Not to be a buzzkill, but the honeymoon does kinda end when you see whether or not he can consistently shut the bathroom door, put the toilet seat down, remember to put the damn milk back in the fridge ... you know what I'm talking about!!
At the same time, it makes it much easier to begin building a life together. Sounds like that's what ScarSean's up to as they "eat and hang out" with Sean's kids 20-year-old Dylan and 17-year-old Hopper, work out, and entertain guests like Owen Wilson and Javier Bardem.
Sounds grand ... but given all the failed relationships between these two, all I'm sayin' is I hope they're well aware that it's not always going to be sittin' in one another's laps drinking sugar-rimmed margaritas! Living together is lovely, but it's also the reality check to end all reality checks for any relationship -- even the most star-studded of Hollywood ones.
Do you think Scarlett and Sean's relationship will last now that they've moved in together? How did living together change your relationship?
