Even though he shot her in the arm Kelly Preston thinks Charlie Sheen is still a swell guy. At least that is what she has been saying since her former fiance went insane. According to CNN, she said:
My heart just goes out to him, and all of his family. He's such a good person underneath all of it, he really is. We were together for a year, and he wasn't drinking, and he wasn't doing drugs. And there's a beautiful person in there. He really is a great man.
Preston, who was engaged to Sheen in 1990 and somehow ended up shot in the arm, is not the only ex of Sheen to speak this way and she is also just one of many women. Despite his history, despite the fact that he SHOT HER IN THE ARM and has harmed countless other women, no one is willing to call this guy what he is.
Beyond Preston, there have been many. In 1994 he was sued by a woman who said he hit her after she turned down sex. Later, Brittany Ashland, a porn star, said Sheen threw her onto the floor during a fight. Denise Richards said that Sheen shoved and threatened to kill her. And Brooke Mueller called 911 in 2009 after Sheen held a knife to her throat.
Is it money? Is it his (former) good looks? What makes women willing to go out with and even marry a man who is notorious for how badly he treats women? He once famously said that he does not pay prostitutes for the sex, but actually pays them to leave.
So what gives?
Women do this sort of thing all the time. We love us some bad boys. They are alluring and sexy and even more alluring and sexy is the idea that we might succeed where other girls failed. It is quite an ego boost to be the one to tame the bad boy.
It is not always impossible, either. My husband treated girls before me very poorly. We were young when we met and while he obviously never hit a woman, he was certainly not always faithful to girlfriends or reliable as a boyfriend. It gave me a giant ego boost when he respected me more.
Now, we are 10 years into our relationship and my hubs is basically the sweetest guy in the world. No one would believe that he once was a bit of a rogue. Of course he was 22. Charlie Sheen has had plenty of time to grow out of this behavior and the fact is, he probably never will.
Why would he want to? He is getting so much praise and adoration and sex (oodles of it) just by being a nutjob, he has zero incentive to change. Let’s just hope the goddesses can dodge bullets.
Seriously, Kelly Preston, what are you thinking defending him?
