It's been almost two years since Natasha Richardson passed away from a brain hemorrhage caused by a skiing accident. Her devoted husband, actor Liam Neeson, recently opened up to Esquire magazine about his battle with the devastation that followed the incident. It's absolutely heart-wrenching to hear how Liam has been coping -- or attempting to cope -- since the loss of his wife.
In the interview, Liam expands on how you can't exactly plan for the process of grieving:
[Grief] hits you in the middle of the night -- well, it hits me in the middle of the night. I'm out walking. I'm feeling quite content. And it's like suddenly, boom. It's like you've just done that in your chest.
Given how intensely sad Liam still is, it's clear he has yet to fully recover from the death of Natasha. In many ways, he probably never will. But I can't help but be reminded of the character he portrayed in Love Actually ...
In the 2003 rom-com, he played Daniel, a widower left with a young pre-teen son. The storyline now must now hit Neeson very close to home, being that he is also a father to two teenage sons. Toward the end of the film, we see Liam get the hots for and flirt with the single mom of one of his son's classmates, who is played by Claudia Schiffer.
It's possible life could imitate art in more ways than one. Last spring, Liam was spotted with a model named Jennifer Ohlsson. I wonder if they were out on a date? But there hasn't been much mention of them together since April 2010.
I wonder if Liam feels Natasha would want him to be happy, to move on and find love and comfort with another woman? It must be so hard, but it would be wonderful for him to find someone again. I remember something that Paul McCartney said after his wife of almost 30 years, Linda, passed away. He said he talked to her in spirit about moving on with Heather Mills (even though we know how that turned out!), and he felt like she would have said, "If I was there you'd be dead meat, sucker. But I'm not there and I want you to be happy."
Liam seems like such a sweetheart -- and I really hope he can find a similar kind of peace to Paul's. He totally deserves a beautiful, intelligent woman to stand by his side and to help take care of him and his boys. I'd love to play matchmaker for him!
Last fall, it was reported that he was dating a PR exec and mom-of-two named Freya St. Johnson. But if things don't work out with her, maybe he'd do well with Jennifer Aniston, who would make a great stepmom? Even though he seems to have a thing for blondes, Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger has suggested he date Sandra Bullock. Or Christie Brinkley, who totally deserves a good, stable guy for once?
No matter who he ends up with, my heart goes out to him and his sons. I hope they can truly find peace of mind and Liam finds love again.
Who would you set Liam Neeson up with?
