Even though she has quit The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Bravo viewers will soon be moving on to a new cast in Miami, Camille Grammer is still in the headlines. She's still running around, yakking her bobblehead off about what went wrong in her marriage to Kelsey Grammer. She has excuses galore, like his penchant for watching FOX News led him astray.
But I believe the 55-year-old actor left his marriage and is now about to tie the knot with 29-year-old Kayte Walsh for one HUMUNGOUS, and legitimate, reason: S-E-X.
I didn't really follow RHOBH, so I don't really know that much about Camille. But her confession that she and Kelsey hadn't had sex in TWO YEARS tells volumes about why her marriage fell apart. So do the following quotes from her appearances this week on The View and Joy Behar's Headline News show ...
There's so much more to marriage than sex ... We just didn't mesh sexually. We weren't intimate.
Okay, sure, there is more to marriage than sex. But I can't help but think of wise words my good friend, Lissa Rankin, an amazing holistic OB/GYN-turned-Change Catalyst Coach, once shared with me ...
When I was 23 and about to get married, my mother, who probably thought I was still a virgin (ha!), gave me a Playboy how-to video and this one piece of wisdom, based on her successful, happy, sexy marriage to my father: "When your sex life is good, it only accounts for about 10 percent of your marriage. When it's bad, it's 90 percent. Do what it takes to make it good."
Camille may have thought that she and Kelsey could just get by without doing what it takes to make it good. Wow, was she sorely mistaken! No one should settle for a sexless marriage, or even one in which the sex is disappointing. I really couldn't agree more with Lissa's mama. When your sex life is in the dumper, your marriage will swiftly follow. It's just too integral to maintaining emotional intimacy.
But perhaps sex just wasn't a priority to Camille. It seems as though it wasn't, being that she told Joy Behar she loved "cuddling" (which is nice and all, but it is not the same as schtupping). So, if that was the case, she can't be surprised that her husband wasn't satisfied in their marriage. I don't know if she and Kelsey did anything, like counseling, to sort these issues out. They sure had the resources to. But I guess healthy communication isn't their style.
As sad as it is to see any marriage or relationship fall apart, it seems the Grammer divorce was for the best. Now, Kelsey gets to get busy into his senior years with a blondie who is young enough to be his daughter, and maybe Camille can ... cuddle with her co-stars on the CBS comedy, $#! My Dad Says.
Is a healthy sex life necessary for a happy marriage?
