Shelley Malil had it coming. After stabbing his ex-girlfriend Kendra Beebe 23 times in August 2008, The 40-Year-Old Virgin actor was sentenced to 12 years to life in prison Thursday. Life!
Reportedly, the incident happened after Malil, 46, found his ex in bed with another man. Oh, and that's only after he sent naked pictures of the couple having sex to her coworkers. What an A-class guy!
Thankfully, Beebe survived the attack, and was able to testify against Malil in court.
While some may say a life sentence is a little extreme, I say what the hell is wrong with you? Sure, I can understand 12 years with parole if he stabbed her, you know, once. Maybe, in that case, he shouldn't have let his anger get the best of him.
But 23 times?! That's not only an aggravated attack, but an attack with intent to kill. Would you feel comfortable living next to an attempted murderer?
Perhaps even more shocking than the extreme and well-deserved sentence is how unexpected such violent behavior is coming from a guy who seems so ... fun to be around? A comedian who immigrated from India, Malil has an impressive acting career, staring in numerous television shows include Party of Five, NYPD Blue, and the West Wing. But his most notable appearance is by far that of the overambitious electronics store clerk Haziz, opposite Steve Carell.
I could totally see him being the life of any party. When you watched his portrayal -- did you think, "Gee, I could totally see that man violently attacking his ex?" Yeah, neither did I. You never know when that dark side will appear, and in whom.
I'm not saying that some of our other favorite funny men like Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are going to run out and commit capital murder. But is there some complexity there we have yet to see? How about a thriller, Adam? Do it with Denzel. Now that would be a duo.
I want to do whatever I need to do to make sure I make right from the wrong that I did.
I'm not exactly sure if you can "right" stabbing your ex, more than 20 times, however.
Are you shocked by Shelley Malil's sentence?
