AJ Burnett, New York Yankees pitcher and devoted family man, looks like he is going to be the fourth big break-up of the week. It turns out, the science behind the study showing more December breakups may not have been far off. Maybe it's true of marriages, too.
Let's get this straight: This week alone, we've lost Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, and Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter.
And -- breaking news -- just today Nip/Tuck star Dylan Walsh and wife of six years, actress Joanna Going. Making it five!
Ouch, it's a bad week for Hallmark.
Of course, it sounds like the Burnetts' divorce may have been in the works for some time and is taking the blame for his bad season last year:
"A.J. Burnett went through a terrible divorce and he still might going through it. His wife was vindictive and spiteful. I don't even feel comfortable telling you everything. The stories are ugly," Colin Cowherd of ESPN reportedly said.
Of course being a professional sports star's wife is notoriously difficult. Think of Elin Woods or Vanessa Bryant. Did he cheat? Was he gone all the time? Was he obsessed with himself and selfish? To be fair, we have to also give her the benefit of the doubt. In celebrity divorces, it's too easy to peg one as the crazy person.
On thing is clear: they will both likely be involved with their kids. Burnett and his wife Karen have two children and Burnett has a tattoo for each child on his body. Some may scoff at tats as the mark of dooming things, but they show commitment and love for the family.
Whatever the reason, there are two little children -- Ashton and AJ Jr. -- who probably don't need to hear how horrible their mother is all over the media.
What do you think of this rash of breakups?
