The engagement ring in question is an oval-shaped ruby stone flanked by two diamonds from Neal Lane, reportedly worth at least $100,000. People aren't talking about the details on the vintage bauble, though: they're gossiping about the fact that Jessica Simpson is rumored to have purchased it herself.
A "family friend" tells PopEater,
First, we find out that Jessica doesn't want to have a prenup, and now we find out that she might have paid for her own ring. It just doesn't feel right to me. We all want Jessica to be happy and finally find true love after all she has been through, but she doesn't understand that in the long run if she pays for everything it will hurt her relationship with any man.
Seriously? Are we ... what century is this? That line of thinking seems ridiculously sexist to me, not to mention just plain stupid. How would it make their relationship any stronger to have had her fiancee Eric Johnson pay for it (if, in fact, he didn't)? Seems to me there are plenty of reasons to raise an eyebrow over this marriage aside from whose credit card holds the ring payment.
I can only assume Jessica Simpson has made plenty of money for herself during her career, while her fiancee is probably much less wealthy. Why shouldn't it be okay for her to finance her own wedding ring? I'm sure no one will bat an eye over the actual wedding costs, which may well come from her as well.
What do you think—is it a bad sign that she may have bought her own ring?
