Vacations are a great way to bond because you're experiencing something new together. But let's face it, they're also expensive and most of us don't have the time or money to take one at our leisure.

However, you can simulate that thrill of being somewhere new without having to pack a huge suitcase, make travel arrangements, and beg your mom to take the kiddos for the week.

How do you do that? It's simple, just drive.

Pick a direction, and just go. Preferably the direction that's the road less traveled for you both. For those of you that are control freaks, you might have a hard time with this because the plan is to have no plan. You just drive for an hour, or four, until you come to a new place. Whether it's a big city or a little tucked away town, spend the afternoon together checking out the local hot spots.

I did this once, and we found this adorable tiny town that we didn't even know existed. We shared a milkshake at an old-fashioned malt shop, shopped in an antique store, and met locals at the town's park.

Have you ever just driven without a specific destination? Where did you end up?
