Photo from HBO.comOkay, so Carrie and Big (aka John Preston) may be a fictional couple, but after over 10 years of following their on-and-off relationship on Sex and the City, I'm emotionally invested, and with the Sex and the City 2 movie now in theaters, I figured it'd be nice to take a stroll down memory lane with these two.
Who could have known that the guy that helped Carrie gather her condoms from her fallen purse on a New York City sidewalk that one fateful day would be the man that she would someday marry?
Season 1: Big and Carrie begin dating, though he confesses that, after already being married once, he has no desire to get married again. After a season of analyzing his every word and action, Carrie decides that the relationship is too one-sided and breaks up with him.
Season 2: They begin dating again, yet decide to part ways when he announces that he's moving to Paris for work. They run into each other months later at a Hamptons party. Carrie is shocked to find out that he's back. And engaged to a 20-something named Natasha.
Season 3: Big is married and Carrie is dating Aidan, yet they begin an affair. Natasha finds out about the affair when she catches Carrie in her apartment, and Carrie eventually confesses to Aidan, ending the relationship. She tells Big, "We are so over that we need a new word for over."
Season 4: They attempt to be friends and Carrie gets back together with Aidan, who proposes. They later break up. Carrie is devastated when she calls Big out of the blue and finds out that he's moving to Napa Valley, California, in a few days.
Season 5: They meet up while Carrie is in California promoting her book.
Season 6: Big comes to New York for heart surgery. Big seems to be different, more open, after the surgery. Yet, the following morning, he's back to his old self. Carrie begins dating Russian artist Aleksandr Petrovsky and eventually moves to Paris with him. Big finally comes to the realization that Carrie is the one and goes to Paris to find her. They get back together, and we find out his name is John.
Sex and the City movie: John and Carrie decide to get married, but John leaves her at the altar. After picking up the pieces, Carrie understands why John freaked out. They run into each other at the apartment that they had bought together and realize that they belong together. They get married at the courthouse.
Sex and the City 2: What happens after they say, "I do"?
Do you like Carrie and Big together? Are they a good couple? What do you think happens between them in the sequel?
