Police Close to Arrest in Chandra Levy Case

Remember Chandra Levy?

She was the pretty Washington, D.C., intern who had an affair with California congressman Gary Condit. Condit has always denied any involvement with her disappearance 8 years ago. He was never charged with any crime, but he did lose when he was up for re-election in 2002.

A man in a California prison, Ingmar Guandique, is close to being charged with her murder.

This case has always haunted me.

Chandra Levy often went running in Rock Creek Park, in Washington, D.C., where her remains were found a year after she vanished. Currently, Guandique is in jail for assaulting two other women in this same park. Click here for a photo history of this tragic case.

FOXNews reports that Guandique had confessed to her murder, but then changed his story. He will probably be flown to Washington, D.C., to be formally charged.

Here is more info from FOXNews reports:

"Levy's parents, Robert and Susan Levy of Modesto, Calif., said Friday night that police told them there had been a break in the case, KXTV in Sacramento reported.

Levy, 24, of Modesto, Calif., had just completed an internship at the U.S. Bureau of Prisons when she disappeared from her apartment on May 1, 2001."

I'm so relieved this family might have closure soon. Did this case grip and haunt you the way it did me?
