Getting married is exciting. Getting a new mother-in-law? Sometimes, not so much. Take it from one bride-to-be, who had to learn the hard way that her MIL is bound to be a handful after she "accidentally" sent her a text message totally trashing her wedding dress fitting.

These stories are based on posts found on Reddit. She even noted in the Reddit thread that "Overall we had a great day and I got the most amazing dress." So imagine her surprise when she "accidentally" received a text from her future MIL that the day was a sh*tshow -- and it included a lie about the bride's mother.

"I'm not sure what to do at this point," Bamboo said. "How to I get her to speak with me about what is going on without making the matter even worse?"

Many people replied and said that Bamboo shouldn't engage in the fight any further. But at least she now knows who her MIL really is.

"She gave you valuable information about the kind of person she is," the person wrote. "Adjust your trust in her accordingly."

"I guess you now know that she is not to be trusted with personal information," wrote another.-placeholder

User xtlou also made the fantastic point that "whenever you hear someone talking crap about someone, you can pretty much be sure they'll talk crap about you to."

So the chances of Bamboo's mom being the only target of her MIL's venom is pretty much slim-to-none.

But not everyone agreed that Bamboo should take the path of least resistance. Some people suggested that she fight fire with fire.

Later in the thread, Bamboo2u admitted that this wasn't the first time her MIL said or did things that seemed questionable. "This just topped it off and really was a wake up call," she explained.

It seems like maybe this problem is bigger than the odd shopping trip out. So for the sake of their marriage, Bamboo2u and her fiancé may want to have a heart-to-heart with his mom and go over what exactly happened. Just don't forget the lesson you learned, Bamboo2u. Because as many people have said, she most likely will do something like this again.
