Breakups suck, there's no way around that. During this rough time, our friends often prove themselves as an important crutch and support group to help us cope and grow from the heartache. Need some evidence for that? Look no further than one woman's epic and empowering divorce party

  • Canada-based Nicole Niesner was going through a divorce after 13 years of marriage and was wondering how she was going to spend the day it went official.

"I had three choices: live it like every other day, cry and be miserable all day, or celebrate a new beginning, a second chance," she said on Love What Matters. "I decided I wanted to celebrate and acknowledge the day."

  • "I had no idea this was the plan," she tells CafeMom. "I went into my storage room and dug my dress out."

"I felt so happy. I felt loved," she said.

It ended up lifting up more than just Niesner. Eoanna Tatoulis, one of Niesner's best friends and the one who took the photos, had also been going through her own separation. "The party was amazing," she tells CafeMom. "I came there upset and crying from everything in my life, but by the end of the night we were all laughing and smiling -- it was amazing! I knew we would both be alright in life."

  • The hope is that Niesner's divorce party will empower other people who are going through similar splits to keep a positive outlook.

"We are showing people that we can all still remain positive and not to focus on the negative that divorce can bring," Tatoulis continues to CafeMom. "We are empowering people with positivity and the value of strong friendships."

  • Let's give it up for the power of friendship!
