Happy New Year's Resolutions

happy baby

I hope to spend time with my men.

There is no such thing as a stupid New Year's Resolution. Of course, there are challenging ones, like vowing to lose 15 pounds. Then there are easier ones such as resolving to watch less TV--or at least less 90210.

But whether we stick to our New Year's resolutions or not matters little. Making them is the special part. I get to take a personal time out to evaluate my life, goals, hopes and dreams. I indulge in a few fantasies. Like I'd love to have a perfectly organized and minimalist house in 2009. I come up with practical resolutions, too: I should eat more beets and do more weight training.

Does it even matter if we stick to our resolutions? It's thinking about small and large changes in our lives--and spending a little time indulging our hopes and dreams--that feels so good at New Year's.

Mamajody0507 had an interesting resolution idea: She wants to send personal notes to everyone she's ever wronged. She asked if her idea was stupid in Answers, and of course, many CafeMoms chimed in to say it's not. There are no stupid resolutions!

Gr8mamaof3 wants to take off some pounds and is inspired by The Biggest Loser, as she posted in The Mamma's Club. She'd like to be in better shape before she goes on a trip in June.

Srhmldndo was due on December 31 (YAY! Congrats to you!), and she just hopes to be a good mommy.

Here are my 7 resolutions for 2009:

  1. Continue going to the gym. (And to give myself a pat on the back for working out in 2008.)
  2. Write a book idea that I have.
  3. Eat 5 fruits and veggies each day.
  4. Spend quality time with my husband and kids.
  5. Keep my baby weight off. I want it to stay gone.
  6. Wear makeup. I have needed to do this for a long time.
  7. Buy nicer pajamas. Mine are a disgrace.
