'The Golden Girls' Had Hella Hookups -- Let's Hope We All Do Too!

golden girlsLoooong before Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha were dishing about their sex lives over brunch, four other sexually liberated women were doing just the same. Sure, Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia were old enough to be your grandma (or great-grandma), but The Golden Girls were busy in the bedroom. And now we know just HOW busy.

If you've never seen the much loved Emmy-winning sitcom that ran on NBC from 1985–1992, it's about four older, single women sharing a house in Miami. Instead of complaining and comparing probs over martinis à la Carrie and crew, these girls had late-night cheesecake at their kitchen table.

Many of those heart-to-hearts centered around men, and Refinery29 has painstakingly taken the time to find out just HOW many.

Sophia, played by Estelle Getty, claimed to have slept with such famous men as Sigmund Freud and Mussolini. But if you count just the REAL men she bedded on the show, her total is a pretty respectable 25.

Rose (played by everyone's favorite senior citizen, Betty White) comes in at 30 boyfriends. (Or 86, if you count the ones she didn't sleep with.)

Bea Arthur's Dorothy just tops that number at 43.

But the REAL player is sassy Blanche (Rue McClanahan) with a jaw-dropping 165 boyfriends.

So what do we have to say about those stats? How about, You go, ladies!

There's not a ton of research when it comes to older adults and sex. But what IS out there is pretty optimistic. Men and women well into their 80s are still doing the deed and engaging in foreplay, masturbation, and oral sex.

The longer in life you engage in sex, the healthier you are, so The Golden Girls must have been in awesome shape.

Did they have more partners than most women? Um yes, according to this Sex Calculator. But the Girls were so comfortable in their own skin, we're guessing they wouldn't care what other people thought.

Enjoy life while you can was their motto. (Which we all should live by.) In the immortal words of Sophia Petrillo, "If I ever met a man who was over 70 but still looked halfway decent, I'd be on my back faster than you could say, 'I've fallen and I can't get up.'"

Haven't checked out the classic show? You seriously need to. Nothing else will make you want to grow old more.
