Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin Can Vacation Together Because They Have 1 Important Thing

paltrow martinOh hey, did you notice? We just passed the first anniversary of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's conscious uncoupling. Well, the ex-couple did not forget. In fact, it appears Paltrow and Martin marked the occasion by vacationing together in Mexico, as one does.

What is the portmanteau for that, anyway? Conscious uncopleversary? Never mind. I guess it's just one more example of Gwyneth Paltrow doing everything better than the way I do it, including divorce.

Aw, I'm just teasing. I think it's sweet and admirable, actually. This isn't even the first time they've vacationed together since their split -- it seems to be a regular thing for them. But man, it kind of puts pressure on you, you know? I'm sure my son would love it if my ex-husband and I took him on vacation together. Even though he knows we are never, not ever getting back together again, even if my boyfriend came with us, I think he'd enjoy it.

And we even spent Christmas together -- all four of us, for the second year in a row. It's a bit awkward, but it's easier than you'd think. Everyone gets along.

But there is one very big thing that is making team Paltrow-Martin work so beautifully, and it is money. Lots and lots of it.

Money for assistants who handle annoying details that other divorced couples quibble over. (Like when your ex-husband doesn't read the emails from the school and misses crucial information about dismissal times.) Money for high-quality therapy. Money for gorgeous homes located right across the street from each other. Money for that vacation travel -- and the freedom of taking them when it works for you, instead of when you both can get time off from your jobs, which is not at all like planning around film and recording projects, actually.

I mean, I could go on an on. But you get the point. Being decent, well-intentioned people will take you far. And having a ton of money can make a spit exponentially more acrimonious if you're horrible. But if you're reasonable and have a ton of money? Oh, the beautiful, beautiful post-divorce life you'll share.

Do you think you could be this amicable with your spouse if you ever split up?
