Sexy, Tearjerking Pole Dancing Video Makes Mind-Blowing Case for Owning Your Sex Appeal

Why I Dance pole dancing videoEven in this post-Sex & the City era filled with Lena Dunham-inspired, feminist voices, women's sexuality is something that our culture still fails to be fully comfortable with. Being sexually empowered? Fuhgettaboutit! So many of us struggle with it! And those are just a couple of the reasons Amy Main, Sascha Alexander, and Melanie Zoey Weinstein, pole dancing, feminist producers in Los Angeles, made a gorgeous, now-viral video featuring 16 amateur pole dancers of every age, race, and body type.

The clip, called "Why I Dance," began as a Kickstarter campaign last year, and aims to show just how comfortable women can be in their own skin and to shatter many of the ridiculous, uptight preconceived notions society has about who pole dancers are and why they express themselves with this particular style of dance.

For instance, in a blog post, Main explains that pole dancing allowed her to "explore and appreciate my sexuality and sensuality as a woman in a way I never had before. It felt like I was shedding my dry, scaly, battered skin, and emerging as a soft, strong, beautiful, feminine creature."

And all the incredible women Main featured in the video have their own reasons for hitting the dance floor. Check 'em out -- but don't be surprised if you shed a couple of tears.

The part that got me was that "we're worth celebrating." You basically can't grow up female in this country without feeling ashamed about some aspect of your body, your sexuality, or both! But we're beautiful, powerful, sexy, and deserve so much more.

'Course you don't need to pole dance to celebrate your body, but it sure makes sense why these women have chosen to go that route. Bravo to them. Their stunningly sexy, confident energy is something we could all stand to have more of.
