Katy Perry's So-Called 'Dry Spell' Should Make Us All Feel Sexier

katy perryKaty Perry has just revealed a whole lot about herself in the July issue of Cosmopolitan. I have to say I'm a little shocked about what she said. She disclosed some very intimate details regarding her sex life ... and lack thereof.

I'm shocked but happy. It was quite useful to know that Katy has had some very substantial dry spells, which made me think about how long is too long to go without sex?

I'm not sure I can put a time on that. Unless you are in a committed relationship. Because if you have a supposedly loving partner and the two of you don't have any outside issues regarding getting it on, if you aren't having sex for months at a time, I would say with 99.99999 percent certainty that something is really wrong in your relationship and it needs to be addressed.

But if you are single and are going without sex ... so what? Katy said that she has gone "maybe six months or a year" without sex and added:

I don't stay single for long. I carry a lot of rose quartz, which attracts the male. Maybe I need to calm it down with the amethyst. I'm not like Professor Higgins with my sex life. I'm not super strict. For me, the most important thing about sex is connection.

She also added that she isn't a one-night stand kind of person.

It seems that Katy has a very healthy attitude when it comes to sex. Going six months to a year isn't a big deal -- if you are single. There shouldn't be a time put on so-called dry spells. Because we all know we can take matters into our own hands if we are feeling frisky. Which is much better than sleeping around to end a dry spell. Her lack of sex for months and months at a time is comforting to know. If this sexy pop star waits for a connection to get it on with someone, let that be an inspiration to us all. (Especially the teenagers who love her.)

If you are in a committed relationship and sex isn't something the two of you partake in very often and both parties are fine with that, then that's okay, too. It all depends on the couple. But if there is a lack of intimacy of any kind and one or both partners is feeling a disconnect as a result, then something has to be done to connect again.

Six months to a year? No big deal. Bravo to Katy for admitting that and making those who have gone that long or longer know there is nothing at all wrong with that. I find that sexy.

What do you think? How long is too long for a dry spell? Does it even matter?
